Napa is having a special on their Platinum line of filters. Buy one and get a $5 instant rebate. This would put the price in the Fram Ultra range, so I considered buying one and using it for the next OCI on the Accord. They seem to be built like tanks but if they are indeed made by WIX, and if they are similar or the same as the WIX HP I wont get one due to the poor efficiency. WIX rates these 50% efficient at 20 microns, at that efficiency I would rather spend the extra $1 and get a Fram Ultra. I do prefer the metal bypass valve on the Platinum vs the "plastic" one on the Fram. Thanks guys and gals.

Don't deviate from the Fram Ultra. Have you seen how good the Ultra does with insolubles in all the UOAs here? I don't think i will ever use another filter again. Wix doesn't post enough information to compare them directly.

I understand you want to change oil types, but stick with the FU.

Also its the Wix "XP"

Oh, I have no qualms with the fact that the Ultra is an excellent filter. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to try something different and with the Platinum being on sale I thought now would be as good a time as every to purchase one.

I ordered three of the Platinum filters for my 2009 T&C. I will be doing 10k+ OCI's.

I also ordered a case of the Napa Syn 5w30 oil for my other van. That's getting comparable to SuperTech Full syn, and should work fine in the Grand Caravan with 180k.

I haven't seen the UOAs, guess I'll have to go snoop around the other forums and take a look.

As far as the WIX XP/NAPA Platinum ... based on WIX's specs and the repeated confirmation that 50% @ 20 microns is a true rating, I'd never use them when the Ultra or a PureOne is so much more efficient at doing what a filter is supposed to do ... filter & clean oil.

Does that mean it'll catch 20 micron size particles 50% of the time ?

Better way to describe it is if 1000 particles of 20 microns in size flowed into the filter, only 500 would be caught and the other 500 would go into the engine.

So if the filter was 99% efficient at 20 microns, of the 1000 particles 20 microns in size hitting the filter, only 10 would make it through into the engine.

Which filter would you rather use?

Thank you sir, I appreciate the explanation. I've been looking all over the internet and couldn't find nobody to give me a simple explanation.

The Ultra got a Trace rating on a recent uoa if I'm not mistaken which is unheard of in used oil and plenty of 0.1 - 0.2 ratings from Blackstone which is extremely difficult for most other filters.

Thats great! I guess I will keep using the Ultra then, those numbers are excellent.
