Just talked to NAPA and found out they are eliminating the Nascar series due to low sales.... You might be able to get a fair filter for a blow out price..... Ck it out...

Napa Gold will remain Wix top shelf. The Nascar Selects are being dropped and replaced by Napa Silver(bringing the old name back; still supplied by Wix). The Napa ProSelect line will remain but packaging is changing. Our five store group has already seen the air filters in new updated graphics packaging. Rumor is that they will be a contract line meaning not always supplied by Wix.

so what is supposed to be better? Silver or ProSelect?

Silver will be better than ProSelect. The rumor floating around is that the current Wix made ProSelects will now be the Napa Silver while the new ProSelect will be a cheaper filter designed for garages & quick lubes & economy diyers; they want the cheapest filter available. I don't think Wix will supply all of the economy filters. Napa did the same about a year ago on the ProSelect fuel filters; used to be made by Wix but they are now contracted out to many different manufacturers.

Proselect is already that filter, at least around here. It is an Affinia filter though, Wix likes to be very clear on that.

Clear on what?

Affinia is the PARENT COMPANY of Wix. That's why the name is included on the label. It has nothing to do with your perceived level of the quality of the filter.

I've heard it from someone who works on the air filter line for one, and for 2... my BOX says "AFFINIA Group" on it (carquest red), yet the WIX style filter (carquest blue) says "WIX Filtration Group" on it. Nowhere on the RED box does it even mention "Wix Filtration Group". Shoot, even people from here who worked or still work for WIX even specify this... "There is only ONE Wix filter, the others are NOT Wix filters, they are affinia".

Here is a direct quote from one:

Just because we make it, does not mean it is a Wix Filter disguised as another brand, although some are.

Direct quote from Affinia website

Quote:

Oil Filters
Oil is the life-blood of every vehicle, and oil filtration plays a vital role in protecting engines from premature wear and potential failures. From NASCAR tracks to construction sites and everywhere in between, Affinia oil filters are purposely "over-engineered" to handle a wide variety of fluctuations in flow and pressure, while withstanding vibration, high and low temperatures and constant spring-load pressure.

The plot thickens...we got a direct shipment of filters in yesterday and some of the Gold filters had new packaging. More black in the packaging with a retro look. It states "The original" Gold filter. The individual panels state construction details, Napa Gold filter history, and promo info. The Affinia logo is above the Wix Products wording on the box.

No more Napa Silver filter info. Our rep said they should be available later this summer

Napa also had us independant store groups send back any unsold Nascar Select filters. We didn't have many to send back since we stopped buying them a month ago and they were slow movers for us anyway.

Thanks,

Dave

Does Napa ever have any deals on oil filters? My last deal I snagged was 5 PureOne filters for 2.59 a piece.

Kemo- There are 6,000 Napa stores with 1,000 being owned by corporate and 5,000 being independantly owned. That means pricing & service varies greatly from store to store. Many Napa stores could care less for retail customers while others value both commercial and retail. Hard for most people to understand that variation between stores vs chain stores i.e. Oreilly, AA, and AZ. Our independant five store group follows the monthly national flyers and also runs a big filter sale twice a year i.e. spring and fall. Napa Golds do go on sale but never that cheap i.e. $2.59; most common Gold ones are around $3-$3.50 during the big spring sale. Our store group sells ProSelect bulk packs(12 filters individually wrapped) for $1.99 per filter year-round to retail customers. Good filter at a fair price.

Interesting. The guy who build my engine said:
"I purchase that NAPA Nascar Select 91060 oil filter almost daily so I know they still have..."

I rec'd that email yesterday.

I never seem to see NAPA stuff other than at NAPA online. I bet they still have cases in their warehouses.

I'm not suprised they are dropping it. They just came out with the new synthetic media Platinum. The excellent Gold sells well, and ProSelect is a big item in independent service shops. I don't see the need for 4 filter levels.

But they (NASCAR) are still good filters, in my opinion, and if I could get a deal, I'd stock up.

I went by two NAPA stores today and they are done with the NASCAR filters. One guy told me they got shipped back to the warehouse. Checked online, "item cannot be shipped" Wonder what they did with them?

They go away to a happy land, far, far away.

Were they the filters with the one-piece combo anti-drainback/bypass valve?

These usually had the same bypass type as the Gold. The Silver-or more recently called the ProSelect, use the rubbery combo valve.
