Napa Gold vs Motorcraft FL1-a...

I prefer to use NAPA GOLD (which is a WIX) on ALL my vehicles. I will use PURE ONE and/or top of the line FRAM in a pinch.

I like NAPA GOLD for it's filtering AND flow as well as a good quality. I don't like Mobil 1 filters or premium DELCO (UPF series) for their "reduced" flow.

While I prefer Motorcraft filters on Ford products, the NAPA Gold is an excellent filter, too. I sincerely doubt it will matter which you use on that motor. Buy the one you can get easier/cheaper.

Both will work just fine, but if I had to make a choice between the two, it would be the Napa Gold because of the silicone anti drainback valve. I own two vehicles that use the FL-1A and I use either Pure One or Wix (Same as Napa Gold) strictly because of the silicone anti drainback valve on those versus the rubber anti drainback valve on the FL-1A.

In my experience, the benefit that the silicone anti drainback valve gives versus the rubber is that it reduces or eliminates start up knock/tap/rattle.

i didnt notice any diffrence between the 2. none. they both looked equal when cut open at the end of the OCI. in my opinion, the silicone adbv isnt worth nearly twice the cost.

Wix (Napa gold) is now my second choice filter, just a VERY small margin behind the Pure One. Mainly I like the fact that in the size filter I use (FL1A equivalent- PL30001)the P1 has a dome-end bypass valve of very nice construction (see 2nd photo in this thread )

So first choice P1, second Wix/NapaGold, third would be a Champion Labs filter like an M1 or Motorcraft.

Not sure if I'm understanding what you're saying, but Motorcrafts are made by Purolator, not Champ Labs.

They swap points. PureONE filters a tad higher efficiency and has a little bigger filtering area. NAPA Gold (Wix) a better bypass (reason for smaller filtering area)and a tad heavier shell. Motorcraft similar to PureONE with some differences (bypass and thicker can thickness)

Differences are trivial and are EXCELLENT Filters. I use what ever is one of the three is on sale. Bosch premium is a PureONE clone sold at Autozone.

I disagree, at least for some applications. The PL30001's dome-end bypass mechanism is, IMO, superior in every way to the Wix feed-end bypass.

Why is that?

I personally prefer and have used Motorcraft for my Ford apps. more than any other filter brand but i will use a P1 as my second choice with Wix coming in a slightly distant 3rd.As a side note never had a problem with either one.
