napa gold oil filters vs purolator classic filters

Unless NAPA has changed suppliers very recently, their Gold filter is made by Wix and considered by most to be very good, especially for the price. Many are still wary of Purolators of various flavors.

Well, the way most of us here on BITOG feel about our favorite filters and oil, it just as well be about religion.

I started using NAPA Gold filters when I bought my Outback. When I got a stellar report from Blackstone on a UAO with the NAPA Gold filter, I became a fanboy. I'm sure there are other good filters out there also, but why waste time and money researching it when I can get outstanding results with the NAPA Gold. Plus, if you stock up when they have their semi-annual filter sale, you can't beat the price.

I can't speak for the Purolator Classic, as I have never used it. But after following the threads here about tears, and seeing what appears to be an indifferent response from Purolator, I doubt I'll ever buy or recommend a Purolator filter.

Yep +1

The NAPA Gold is the best filter for the money out there.

That includes Purolator, AC/Delco, Motorcraft, STP, and FRAM.

Add Hastings and Baldwin if you are buying NAPA Gold on sale.

NAPA Gold is moderately priced, benefits from high build quality, and offers great filtration.

The only thing that rivals NAPA Gold is NAPA Silver.

But catch the NAPA Gold on sale and it's still a slam dunk even compared to its value priced little brother.

No comparison.

^ I agree!

What are the specs on the Napa gold filter?? What is its price NOT on sale?? I'm curious.

I am just curious about this. Maybe worth looking into if these assertions are correct.

I've been reading lots of good reviews of Fram Ultra and it would appear that might be an overall better filter than Napa Gold

These are 2 different levels of filters.

The Classic is more on the same level as the Napa Pro Select or Napa Silver. (According to WIX, the only difference is pleat count.)

The Napa Gold/ WIX is more on the same level with the Purolator P1.

My understanding is that the Wix isn't the most efficient of filters insofar as small particulates are concerned. I could be wrong on this, but that is my memory. I think some of Champ labs higher end offerings are pretty good (Mobil 1, ACDelco Duraguard Gold).

When I have cut Wix filters open to compare to others it appears they have had slightly less media area.
