This is for a 2003 GM 4.3 in a boat of mine. It’s been neglected. About 6 years old but not many hours. It was stuck on worst then any other filter I’ve changed. So it got quite damaged. Looks like it did it’s job. A fram tough guard tg3980 went on in its place and some rotella 15w40. To be changed yearly.

Also here are a couple Napa verdic v51036 that I found laying around. No clue on the age. But they are old. Rather then using them I wasted them for some cutting fun. They look decent. I assume they were a cheaper offering many years ago.

Media seemed fine. Filter held up great. Not brittle like the motorcraft ones what I’ve cut before. This is an old filter. About 6 to 7 years old.
I thought they fixed the issues or are they still having them.

That's a pitty. Do you know if the regular purolators have these issues too.
They have been known to fail as well. I personally have switched to Fram for quite some time now and haven’t had a single issue. Even had a fram extra guard that was used for two intervals by accident as the dealer didn’t change the filter. And it looked really good.

Considering description of removal combined with overall description including fci, the Napa Gold looks ok. GM engine with block bypass.

Never heard of or seen a Verdic OF before, but my 'verdict' is that it's a Wix 'made for' filter. Any date code on dome?

Thanks for c&p.

On the dome both verdic filters it says “033030”.

That’s what all the recent ones I’ve seen had issues with including my own. Just better filters out there for the money. I don’t see any need to use them. They aren’t that good anyways.
In my opinion the best two filters are regular WIX/Napa Gold or the Fram Ultra, Wix has that consistent build quality and the Fram is the best value for high efficiency full synthetic media, Wix XP are built good but the media efficiency is kind of disappointing. Purolator just seems to be lacking in the quality department that I'd avoid Purolator and other brands made in Purolator's factories like Mobil1 filters.

Lots of zeros and threes, obviously. While I don't immediately recognize the format, 'if' it truly represents the 'date code' is it possible the filter(s) could be ~18 years old? 330th day 03, Julian date? 3/30/03? The fact that both codes same, 'if' date code, would mean from same lot.

Anyway thanks for the follow up with dome code. Also the other verdict on the Verdic, besides being a Wix made for, decent looking quality filter.

It would make sense that these filters are old. They were given to me be some family members from their vehicles they no longer have that had the 4.3L V6. And they were 1997 models. 2003 would make sense for a born on date for these filters. They did look like decently made filters and the adbv was still very pliable. If it was silicone and not nitrile rubber I may have considered using them… but a fram tough guard went in their place so I could cut the twin filters up.

My 1984 Isuzu has used mostly Fram & Purolator oil filters all it's life. Since I don't see anymore Purolators off the shelf for the past 10 years, it's now using Fram oil filters exclusively.
