Elsewhere, county code states private garages are permitted uses in agricultural-residential districts.

In 2012, as the neighbor dispute heated up, Williams applied for a conditional use to operate an automotive repair shop or garage, even though he said he was working on cars with his friends. The planning and zoning commission denied the application and so did Sussex County Council because they said property owners are allowed to work on cars with their friends.

“This motion for denial should not be seen as putting a stop to what Mr. Williams and his friends can do on the property,” county council meeting records state.

Kind of case you want to see a lawyer pick up pro bono. He has no legs and his shop looks fantastic, clean neat and stylish. I'd have no problem living next to him.

These people spent tens of thousands of dollars on that? This is why I won't live anywhere without deed restrictions and an HOA. Nice shop....wrong place.

I'd LOVE to have a neighbor with such a shop. I'd be over there all the time asking for help on my repairs and learning how to fix stuff

None of you must live in a nice neighborhood. I want mine to stay nice. I work on cars at a proper garage. Get a job.

. You want your property to look nice so you think everyone's else's should look nice also? If you want to dictate what goes on near your house then buy more property. People need to learn to mind their own business and realise that other people are free to do what they want if they aren't bothering anyone else.

Some annoying bitties in that video, a lot of "the sky is falling!" mentality. The rambling these ladies do is annoying.
Sad thing is he sold the land to them to help pay for the shop and house upgrade.

Here is where his house is on Google Maps..

His house is behind/beside theirs. Not all that close. Pretty rural area that they are in. True they may get a little more traffic on their road from his friends coming over but I doubt noise and smell are that bad.

+1

From what I can see, place looks to be in good shape and tastefully done. Like the article says (judge), there should be some simple give and take...

Wow. And I thought MY neighbors were annoying.

What struck me was this though:

"Williams has no legs. A freak construction accident in 1993 started a chain reaction of surgeries and amputations that continued for five years.

While finishing a deck job in Fenwick Island, Williams said, he was cutting his last board when it fell and nicked his foot. “It was just a simple thing. I’ve had boards hit me my whole life,” he said.

But this time it was far from simple. Doctors first removed his toenail, then his big toe, then half his foot. Williams said his blood kept clotting, putting his life at risk and leaving him in excruciating pain. Seventeen vascular surgeries and five amputations later, both his legs were removed above the knee."

Holy [censored]. I would think that this might be grounds for some kind of malpractice suit.. although I will admit that I don't know all the facts. How could any competent doctor allow this kind of thing to happen?

People can really suck. The place looks nice they should leave the poor guy alone and mind their own business.

Sounds like this mechanic has too many SJW neighbors.

I see you live in NOLA, there are nice neighborhoods there?

Lemme guess: as a child, your favorite words were, "I'M TELLING!"

+1 on that. When we move out of NY, tops on the list is a nice neighborhood with no HOA, and plenty of property. I don't want someone telling what color my front door has to be, or the type of fence I can or can't have, etc. etc. etc. No thanks.

Around here I can make noise fixing cars all day and up to 9pm and there is nothing the neighbours can do about it unless I'm running a business which I'm not, I can't imagine what kind of noise is going on around this place if the noise is taking place inside the garage, the occasional brap of an impact? Up here this wouldn't have even made it to a lawsuit.

Where I live now is the first house I have ever lived in with a HOA. They have a 10 page document that tells you what you can and cannot do, but it is hardly ever enforced. I see kids all the time working on their cars in their driveways which is against HOA rules. But I love to see them out there with something to do, rather than looking for trouble somewhere else. They have some nice rides and its nice they take enough interest in them to maintain them. Personally I just don't have a problem with that type of thing, but there are plenty of folks whose main hobby is to worry about someone other than themselves.
