I've been using Either Castrol or Amsoil in my car starting at 110,000 miles. My oil change plan now is to change the filter at 3,000 miles and add 1 quart of castrol or Amsoil that was lost when I took out the Oil filter. The only time I do a full oil change is every 10,000 miles. Seems like a good plan?

I'm still contemplating to see if I should use Maxlife Synthetic instead.

Instead of developing a Rube Goldburg oil change plan, just do a used oil analysis @ 5K or 7.5K miles and adjust you CI from there. Filter change @3K is a waste.

I think you could save time, $$, and improve average oil quality, by adopting a very conventional schedule. Select a more reasonable priced synthetic (Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, Valvoline SynPower, Castrol Syntec, whatever is the cheapest), and change both the oil and filter at 5,000 miles. Forget the oil analysis, and spend your $$ on good oil and clean filters.

That sounds fine to me, but the guys selling Amsoil and Schaeffer might not agree.

Happy - stick with reasonably priced Amsoil and free shipping. Go 10,000 miles. No need to change filter at 10K intervals. I do it all the time.

Happy, forget Amsoil, I don't work for Pennzoil, but with that milage, get an oil onsale, PP or even a dino. And change at 5K with new filter. I do it all the time as well.
