I was 18, and there was no internet/BITOG. I did not want to contaminate my new oil with the old filter. At 18 I was fit and had plenty of energy... actually I think I phoned a friend for a ride ..but I had to memorize the friend's phone number.. and walking to the store sounded like a much better story lol...(I do remember the feeling I had when I was about to walk to the store.. like dad would say I told you so..)

People are stuck on Mobil cause of its long past and need to get over it. High NA on used oil analysis, consumption, fast forward to 2017.18 and I've had 'generic' 0w-20s not burn a drop.

Do note that their sludge problems sounds different where the oil has carbonized and is gumming up parts.. I am sure If I keep driving my engine in the current state it will eventually happen.

No it won't. You'll either have 99.9% of your issue out, or you won't be driving ...

The clear nature of the "sludge" (which this is NOT) says it is some other chemistry entirely. They never made a clear Mobil 1 - ever. It's always been brown to golden with definite color.

This is something else entirely...

Since when has Mobil 1 had high sodium? This nonsense just never stops. Prey tell, what's the relevance to this thread? Is taking out the intake Camshaft easy?

I want to remoce it to inspect the bearings and oil passages and cam bearings. I thought it was just mark the gear teeth, undo the camshaft bolts.. and then reinstall.




There are more steps than I anticipate (note toyota engine different engine)

You could pull one of the caps and inspect, rather than taking the cams out. You take them out, they will need to be re-timed, something I'm guessing you aren't familiar with given you are asking about the wisdom of taking them out

Jooksing - thought you said you were going to have a mechanic tear down and look at the motor and make a report, and that Mobil gave you a form and the go ahead to do so. So why are you doing all this tear down and clean-up?

No way to trace the oil jug, they are not serialized.

But since the OP ordered on-line and picked it up at the store it might be possible to find out if that jug came from another store (where it could have been a return) or from a warehouse, meaning probably not sold and returned somewhere along the line.
