I am sure the cashier already thinks I am carzy for immediately opening and checking the oil filter in front of them to confirm it matches the box. Long ago I learned as a teenager that once you dumped your oil and then open the filter box.. it is a long walk back to the store to exchange(and explain)

I can tell you're new to this site. Eventually, it's possible you will not worry about leaving that old filter on the engine.

I was 18, and there was no internet/BITOG. I did not want to contaminate my new oil with the old filter. At 18 I was fit and had plenty of energy... actually I think I phoned a friend for a ride ..but I had to memorize the friend's phone number.. and walking to the store sounded like a much better story lol...(I do remember the feeling I had when I was about to walk to the store.. like dad would say I told you so..)

This will be unbelievable to many..

So long story short My new oil has gelled up/thicken in my engine. I was able to drain the [censored] out with the engine warm. Waiting on Blackstone for results.

Oil is Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 with 1,500 miles put in in Nov/2017. Hybrid SUV 08 Lexus RX400h has 126k miles. Oil changed every 5k for the past 4 years with Mobil 1 filter. Coolant is clean and pink (toyota long life)

See the other video I posted to my youtube account (sorry I am new to youtube too )

People are stuck on Mobil cause of its long past and need to get over it. High NA on used oil analysis, consumption, fast forward to 2017.18 and I've had 'generic' 0w-20s not burn a drop.

I hate high NA on a used oil analysis.

What's "NA"?

Any way to look at Photobucket after it reach the limit? found the below thread.

The 3MZ-FE is not known to be part of toyota's sludge engines bit I did find several references.

Do note that their sludge problems sounds different where the oil has carbonized and is gumming up parts.. I am sure If I keep driving my engine in the current state it will eventually happen.

No it won't. You'll either have 99.9% of your issue out, or you won't be driving ...

The clear nature of the "sludge" (which this is NOT) says it is some other chemistry entirely. They never made a clear Mobil 1 - ever. It's always been brown to golden with definite color.

This is something else entirely...

The elements of the periodic table sorted by symbol
Symbol Name chemical element
N Nitrogen
Na Sodium

Since when has Mobil 1 had high sodium? This nonsense just never stops. Prey tell, what's the relevance to this thread? Other than your obvious disdain for Mobil, you've provided nothing, no insight, no interpretation, not even something that would classify as a theory. Just some shoot-from-the-hip irrelevant conjecture and flaming that incenses the user base and adds nothing to the discussion. Bravo.

This is the kind of brand-biased tripe that has been peddled on here enough to erode the technical reputation of this forum. You don't like Mobil, awesome, nobody cares! If you don't like it, don't use it, but your opinion of the brand has no place in a technical thread, which this is. If you want to start your own thread about how and why you hate Mobil, feel free, but don't needlessly pollute somebody else's thread with that garbage.

Stop being stuck in the past and step out into the future, for crying out loud. Everyone has head of the high NA returns on used oil analysis for run of the mill Mobil 1. We aren't speaking of thi new found love affair with the Mobil 1 0w-40 and all of that here so don't get all hissy fit on us.

Is taking out the intake Camshaft easy?

I want to remoce it to inspect the bearings and oil passages and cam bearings. I thought it was just mark the gear teeth, undo the camshaft bolts.. and then reinstall.

There are more steps than I anticipate (note toyota engine different engine)

You could pull one of the caps and inspect, rather than taking the cams out. You take them out, they will need to be re-timed, something I'm guessing you aren't familiar with given you are asking about the wisdom of taking them out

"Everyone..."

Jooksing - thought you said you were going to have a mechanic tear down and look at the motor and make a report, and that Mobil gave you a form and the go ahead to do so. So why are you doing all this tear down and clean-up?

No way to trace the oil jug, they are not serialized.

But since the OP ordered on-line and picked it up at the store it might be possible to find out if that jug came from another store (where it could have been a return) or from a warehouse, meaning probably not sold and returned somewhere along the line.
