Just making light of people with big engines driving slowly EVERYWHERE while I have mine buzzing at 6 grand. Just an observation up here in So NH. The car typically wont last any longer oversized.

And if you are looking for a love fest - DONT POST ON A FORUM

I though everyone knew that by now. I would have welcomed some tough love before I bought many of the freak cars ive owned .... and I'm a degreed prof mech engineer and (former) NIASE master.
Funny that a 86 YUGO was one of the 10 best of over 70 cars!

It is irrelevant if it is a 1/10 or 10 inches as the slope will make many roads impassable. I know folks from Boston like to giggle at how little snow closes things here but it is less about the weather (save for the icing) and more about the terrain. On one side of the ridge, it can be 50 degrees and spring-like , others can be sub 30 with frozen creeks. Worse, the freeze-thaw makes sheets of ice very problematic. Don't forget that many people in this world are designated as "emergency or critical-function" so there is no such snow day and having a 4WD option for employment is essential.

Also, have you driven an AWD vehicle in a lot of rain? It makes up for it then too.

If you want to talk about a useless vehicles, we should talk about all these accountants driving 4-door pickups as their DD

I can see having AWD/4WD if you are an emergency responder.

Tires matter far more in rain or snow than what driving system you have.

If we get right down to it, most vehicle choices are probably not 100% practical. I might have a 4WD truck if:
- It wasn't $3500 more
- For some reason insurance companies want to have higher rates for 4WD vehicles
- Added weight, added complexity, less fuel economy

I completely agree with this. When I got my first Subaru in the '90s people questioned me about giving up MPG for AWD, and I constantly had to explain how the AWD isn't just for ice and snow. I noticed better grip in rain, dirt, and pretty much every driving condition, not just snow and ice.

Now, Subaru has AWD but its mileage is more competitive with its competition, making it more of a win-win in my book.

Subaru wants it to run 5w-30 Regular or Synthetic preferred, (their words)and first change at 3k miles with 6k intervals.

I hear they are shipped with dino oil but I can't wait till 3000 miles.

At 1k fresh synth going in with 5k intervals. Wife mostly drives with short trips.

I stretch its legs when I drive during break-in.

Hey aircooled - Since you're considering making the switch to a synthetic, you'd be a perfect candidate for our new UOA program. Through the program, you'll have the opportunity to test out Pennzoil Synthetics to experience how we stack up against the competition. If you're interested, please send us a private message with your contact info, and we can get you started with a product sample and used oil analysis kit to be tested at an independent testing facility. Looking forward to hearing from you! - The Pennzoil Team

Well, I did the first oil change on the new legacy 3.6r.

1250 miles, a bit longer than I planned, but it felt great!

OEM filter,( for now) 6.9 quarts of castrol gold bottle.

Factory oil had the usual dark appearance and sparkles........destined for the recycler.

Easy peeezy!

I really like that large oil capacity on your Sub, I wish all of my vehicles had another quart or two of oil capacity. They're durable cars for sure. I've gained more respect for them after being involved with one, it has 245K miles on it and some of the best [censored] seats I've ever sat on, it just keeps on running.

When I saw some of the responses to your post it made me think, man there sure are some pompous as*ses on this website (not you of course).

The flat six makes for a real street sleeper Subie, more so than the turbo four.
In a rainy day stoplight GP, you could humiliate the driver of just about any high-po RWD or FWD car, since the Subie can put its power down without drama.
One of these days I'm going to have to get myself a six cylinder Legacy.
Those who've never had a Subaru are clueless about just how nice a Subaru is in bad weather and just because you don't typically drive as foolishly as one of the posters in this thread doesn't mean that you won't enjoy the flat six.
