I grew up on a dairy farm in the eighties and our machinery was older but fairly reliable due to care and maintenance. I started greasing machinery as a little kid and have loved the smell of used grease ever since (much better than new grease)

Anyway, I have always used either shell retinax (now called gadus) or valvoline (crimson, cerulean) that I got at my local napa store. I used one or the other for long periods, not mixing them.

I try to grease my big truck every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Besides the warm fuzzies I get

I enjoy the "feel" of a freshly greased front end. Back in august I forgot to renew my supply and found myself with down time in kansas city. I walked to the KW dealer and bought JT-6 because it was all they had (as I recall anyway).

Finally my observations: #1 it pumps slightly harder (just enough to notice)

#2 it has never dripped from my gun, even in august

#3 it is tacky to the point of slight annoyance

#4 stays put much longer. The rubber boots stay full much longer and the other parts need very little grease before I see purging of old grease. When grease purges from the slack adjusters on the brakes it is closer to it's original color than other brands. Others turned brownish.

#5 it maintains that freshly greased front end "feel" for several thousand miles, thus I now grease half as often with peace of mind. I grease half as often and still takes less actual grease when I do.

#6 finally my favorite thing about this grease....I put in a new tube, it immediately starts pumping out and it works perfectly 'til the tube is empty. No exceptions....

Just my notes...I tried it because i ran out of my usual brand by mistake and absolutely love this stuff. I do not know anything technical about grease, just telling my observations.

Mystic is available here at our local big box farm store. I've used it exclusively for decades in my yard and garden tractor with great results. I agree with all your observations - nice grease at a nice price.

I'm glad to see others like it. I hadn't done any research prior to use so I had no idea what I was getting.

I tried a number of different greases in my boat trailer axle, including "marine" or "synthetic" ones, and this has been the best for reasons similar to your observation. PepBoys used to carry it and now one can buy it at Walmart.

Valvoline synpower
Mystik hi-temp
CRC new generation

The 3 best greases I have ever used. All are available locally, are inexpensive and work great. I dont know which is really my favorite because they always work well for me.

Just started putting Synpower in my grease gun last year. It is stored hanging on a peg in the garage and so far I have not noticed any dripping. I really like the specs, too- though time will tell how it holds up (I bet it washes out as easily as the rest of their line).

I wanted to add that I've never had a premature part failure with any greases I've used, they're fine for long term use. I just stumbled into the use of mystik and it turned out to be very beneficial in my case and I wanted to share my experience. Glad to see others with similar experiences.

I would gladly try the synpower grease if it gets similar reviews.

Your experiences with Mystik are similar to mine with the CRC grease. I tried it on a whim and I ended up being very impressed. It was all my local napa had in stock once and I ended up liking it.
For me, the valvoline synpower grease seperates quite a bit but my research indicates that seperation isn't neccisarily a bad thing. The grease seperating actually kind of proves the grease has a high lubricating oil content in the soap, so some bleeds off, indicating a good quality grease. I am not sure how I feel about that but I will probably go back to Mystik or CRC grease when my current cartridge of valvoline runs out, just for the sake of not having a mess.

Here is a link to the CRC New generation grease. You can get it at Napa

Thanks for the info AMC...I finally had a chance to look at the link you offered and compared the spec's with the mystik spec's. The mystik looks a little better on paper but I don't know if it matters much in real world use. I'd be willing to try the crc grease someday, if only to give the business to my little napa store. I'm sure it would work fine. Thanks!
