and amsoil is 9$ a quart...or i could buy 5 qts of QS synthetic for 17$ at china mart (torque)...my next oil change will be reg QS at 2.10 a quart and it will still go 7500 miles...if i had to spend 65$ on a oil change it better go 20k...i have never gone longer than 8k with any oil, Mobil 1 included...i dont think mechanics look at uoa"s too often

I think he means it'll be dirty by then so you should change it regardless of the oil brand. I'm sure he knows it's a better oil that can last a long time if filtered enough.

I'm not at all sure what your point is. Which Amsoil motor oil? I can assure you that the Amsoil XL is not $9 qt and it can go 10K. I can also assure that other Amsoil oils will be less the $9 and go 15-25K.

Some of us are Sports. We don't care if we get the last nickle of value out of the oil. We want a good quality oil for whatever our unique oci is. My unique oci is 6 month,3750-4000 Fall and Spring. I'm running PP 5-20 right now. I prefer a reasonably good syn and I ain't afraid to dump it when I want to. Every persons oci is unique to that driver, drive, engine, season, etc, etc, etc.

+1, I pretty much do the same thing with one of my vehicles, and the few $$ more in the scope of things doesn't bother me. I try and save in other ways.

Don't be too hard on the mechanic.
His advice follows the Physician's creed of "Do no harm".
Mechanics rarely recommend extremes for anything. So he is only being a bit safe with his advice.

As a group, they are way better with lube advice than the average civilian. Usually they use dated advice - things which have been proven over the years to them.

Probably most people who use Amsoil change it out at 5 to 7 thousand miles. Look at the uoas,so to them it does last only 5 to 7 thousand miles. You can run Amsoil a long, long time and your engine will outlast your ownership of the car .That being said I do not use Amsoil .

my mechanic sells amsoil syn at 9$ a quart...what is the usual price for it?...it seems pretty expensive

Get a PC license & stock up. If you have a friend to split the license cost it is even better. I know 4 guys who get the dealer license & buy in huge quantity. When I finish my PP bogo stash I'll probably go in with them and buy a 3 year supply for everything. BTW, they all go at least 10k and some bravehearts go 20k+. I will go 10k when all my vehicles are out of warranty.

If you are doing a 5000 OCI with a $4/qt oil than it's the same and you are saving a filter and all the trouble.

I'm going with Amsoil in the spring for my Jeep, but will only buy enough for 2 OC's. I'm going to start using up my current stash in my Aerostar and E-150, so I'll be ready to re-stock when the new GF-5 spec'd oils hits the shelves.

I'll be scoping the closeouts when the GF-5 comes out

Which product are you talking about?

That's cheap. Ask your mechanic what he sells $4 YB for.

The average non-LOF quick lube price for a filter is between $8.95 and $9.95. When oil was $1.65/quart the charge was $4+.

The XL line was created and is marketed as an alternative to the 3k quick lube joints.

i assume it was regular synthetic amsoil...i would like to try amsoil, but not at 9$ a quart...what is your price?...if you sell it
