My girlfriend just purchased a 2007 300C sludge

Welcome to the exciting world of being forced to maintain some POS that you hate! My lovely wife refuses to drive anything other than a VW, has a unique driving style (beat it to death), and feels like required maintenance is merely money making schemes by "the man". I really think she was the first to coin the term "It came with oil, why change it?"

OP - good luck. That is not sarcasm. I truly wish you good luck.

My girlfriend Keisha performs her own oil changes and she is a pretty good amateur mechanic lol

Funny, My wife ( NOT the old girlfriend in my other post ) but my wife was on her 4th VW in the last 10 years, She LOVED EVERYTHING about VW as much as I hate VW.

I will admit I did like the TDI diesel but not a fan of late... I tried EVERYTHING but she would never move from VW but somehow the planets aligned and the wind blew the right direction and surprise...

She finally traded for a HONDA so I hope now long gone are those MANY "VW ISSUES" the BAD VW dealer issue and the DISMAL Resale value of the VW's

I hope she and I will now live in the world of HONDA HAPPY!

you should have Keisha post a hello comment here. How could you have her mentioned by name but not let us meet her? 😆

Congratulations on your engagement. Ask for Oil for your wedding gifts for a true Bitog wedding.

- Kurt.

My '00 VW GTI 1.8T got minimal maintenance, which is to say I changed the oil every ~10k miles, did one transmission service at 100k, and the timing belt at 100k & 200K. Also, I only ran cheap copper spark plugs in it. Other than that, if it didn't break, it didn't get serviced. Still ran good when I gave it away at 365k miles.

I hope we do nearly as well with her Atlas and the 2013 Beetle. Actually, I love the Atlas and really like to drive the Beetle, so I may be coming around. But the first two Beetles (98 and 03) nearly broke me.

Consider a Magnefine inline transmission filter.

While people talk about sludge having some sludge usually does not cause any engine problems unless it starts to prevent oil from draining back to the oil dump. Obviously one prefers no sludge but some sludge is not a real big problem.

But the condition of the transmissionmission could be a bigger problem.

A routine of Valvoline Restore and Protect at 5k miles intervals starting day one..Pick up a quality oil filter..It will not get overwhelmed or clog. 5 intervals for this engine.

Having bought and loved on many used cars, many over 100k, I have use whatever synthetic seemed good at the time and run half a can of seafoam in the sump on shorter oil intervals until 15k miles or whenever I felt like being done. On Volvos with the pesky flame trap this worked extremely well, notably on one it went from consuming a quart every 1000 miles to not at all. I was probably changing oil every 3k or so while running the seafoam.

Magnefine on the transmission is also an excellent idea. Magnefine and amsoil restored a Volvo 1-2 shift flare to oem, an unexpected result for that car, over 20,000 miles or so.

Then I would let her do her thing.
It’s one thing when a woman has no clue and shows no interest in learning, it’s another when she shows genuine interest in and working on cars.
You're lucky. My wife doesn't even know how to open the hood. Even if she did, she'd just say..." I think that's the engine"

This high mile oil question reminded me of MANY years ago...

1986 I think it was... Me and all my buddies still had our 76-78 Datsun 280Z's that we all had in High School about 6 or 7 of us all owned and LOVED 70's Z cars , We all were kinda Z car experts but I will never forget the day my buddy and I were both outside in the driveway detailing our cars and my then Girlfriend (fiancée) pulled up in her NEW TO HER 78 black 280Z... As she pulled in I had no idea she was even looking for a Z car much less had purchased one so as she is pulling in at 30' her car was beautiful, new shinny black paint but as she got to 20' close I looked at my buddy and he I and we didn't say a word, we didn't have to...

As my girl got out I responded with a gosh, what did you buy? Her response was she and her mother had found her new car!
My buddy and I locked eyes again and said nothing but her new black paint was pained over rust! It had HUGHE 2' to 3' rust bubbles under the new paint that my girl ( and her mom didn't even notice )... Boy that was hard being "happy" for her and her new to her car... I never said anything but wow, nice shinny paint and wow great Stereo!

Boy that car was a Northern rusted out dog! I'm surprised it never snapped in half on the highway from the rust...

At that point I stayed out of TOUCHING her car as IF anything went wrong it would have been my fault.

At that point I realized how independent she was as it truly surprised me she didn't ask my advice or our Z expert friends. A few years later I realized that car was not the only thing she was NOT telling me about.

I married someone else, had a family and she never married, and is now a retired independent thinking Cat lady...
But you still know what's going on in her life? Hows that? Small town?

Yup, my '92 GTI amassed a lot more than that. Alas, it's leaking coolant now so going to need to change out the water pump when I get a chance. Still runs great and passes smog!
