My GeneralRT43 tirebuyer.com/Discount Tire bargain

For anyone who doesn't know, tirebuyer.com has amongst the lowest prices for tires and will ship free to local installers. On Oct. 1, I checked their website for General Altimax RT 43 tires in the size I needed, 195/70/14, for my 2001 Toyota Camry. Price listed at $260 for 4, minus $25 fall special instant discount, so $235. Total cost included with their provided local installer would have amounted to $335.50 with all taxes and fees included.

I presented that info to my local Discount Tire....and did so because their install package includes free lifetime rotation and balance....and they actually offered to beat the price match by a few dollars.....I had 4 General Altimax 43 tires installed with free lifetime balance and rotation for $331.41, which I think is a BARGAIN...and I was able to complete the deal on their special order in time so that I'd still be eligible to receive a $50 rebate from General as well!

My previous Hercules Tour 4.0 plus served me well, having lasted 46,000 miles with another 6 to 8k miles left on them and were a better than expected tire, but the reviews on the Altimax RT 43's were just too much to pass up and actually cost me a few dollars less than going with the Hercules again.

I did check tirebuyer.com as I have just installed the AltiMAX RT43's from discounttiredirect(DTD) on my wifes car.

I checked Tirebuyer and although their price on the same exact tires in my size was $8 less/tire, their shipping and NY State Tax($71 total) and lack of any other discounts(beyond the General Tire Rebate) such as, extra prepaid VISA(or other) card, put them quite a bit over what I paid from DTD.

Every tire store(online or otherwise) is offering the same MFG rebates on all tires. Tirebuyer's shipped price(w/rebate) is still $94 more OTD than what I paid.

Those willing to use Tirebuyer's recommended installers, can save shipping cost if the tires are shipped to the installer. State tax & Zip Code may vary if any tax at all.

What I have found with tire websites prefered tire installers(if available in your area) is, that their installed prices in my area are grossly more money(often by an additional $50 OTD) than the Super Walmart* that I frequent for my tire installations.

I do understand that not everyone has an available W*M Super Store for tire installations.

* Tirebuyer is another good source for buying tires and another competitor to the other popular tires sites we're all aware of(TD, DTD, TR)...the 3 I use most!

** I love having another source for making apples to apples comparison on tires shipped to my Zip Code...Complete OTD Prices.

*** It's not all bottom line to me, it also the great customer satisfaction also. I hope Tirebuyer has this as well! I have been satisfied with the other 3 online tire stores that I mentioned.

I wouldn't let walmart vacuum the inside of my car let along do any work on it. Might be different in your area.

about 10 years ago A friend had them install a battery...

they managed to rip the headlight wiring harness.

On the oil change they put in 5qt the car only held 3.8

And the wheels they rotated were so tight I took them back and had them loosen them as I was afraid the studs were going to be damaged.
This was after the friend complained of brake pulsations so I was going to retorque the lugnuts.

Its what happens when you have near min. wage disgruntled grease monkeys work on year car.


Of course fast forward to 2013, I had a hyundai dealer roadforce mount and balance 4 defenders on a 2010 accent. They mounted them inside sidewall out on all 4 tires.

The other day I took it back to have them switched for free.. When I got it home the lugnuts were so tight I couldnt move them with an 18" breaker bar and I'm 185#.
Had to get out the 25" bar. I tried my torque wrench on 150, and they were all tighter, So I turned it upto the max 250.. and they were still tighter.....

This was immediately after a 8mile drive home.. so they werent stuck in place.


Back on topic.. the whole DTD sale going on right now is amazing. *after mir*

The W*M that we use here in my area does a fantastic job installing tires. We've been using them for ~10 yrs now. Myself and many of our car guy friends and family. The manager keeps things on the Up & Up!

We don't have a Discount Tire/America's Tire in my area, only the online DTD!

No doubt I'm fortunate to have a retail Discount Tire that will price match tirebuyers shipped to installer price.....as Discount Tire Directs price for 4 General Altimax RT43's in my size come to $300 with free shipping......vs. the $231 price match/beat that my local Discount Tire gave me.....$69 total savings....a few dollars more when tax is included.

Nice! Good deal for you in the 195-70-14 which is probably a tire size that is hard to find these days!

I paid $283 from DiscountTireDirect for my RT43's in size 225-70-16 so, I can't complain!

And during DTD pre-July 4th sale, I could have paid $168 for the same tires if I hadn't missed the deal of "Double Rebates/Discounts"!

Still kicking myself in the butt for not paying attention at that time
