95 F150 5.8L. Purchased a year ago with only 130k miles on the clock. Problem free and ozone depleting with no worries for 10K miles over the next 11 monts. Five weeks ago she started lurching/hesitating at any speed, two days after the lurching began, she refused to start altogether. Towed to the shop and diagnosed with a failed fuel pump. Three days later I pick it up, but the fuel level gauge didn't work and it still lurched at any speed. It took another 2 weeks for the shop to figure out how to get the fuel level sensor to work properly. I picked up the truck today and she still lurches/hesitates at any speed. The shop didn't/won't diagnose it, and they say it is unrelated to the fuel pump failure, to absolve themselves of any responsibility I assume. This shop has been good to me the last 3 years but no more. This is [censored]. The lurching feels related to fuel delivery. The plugs and wires are fairly new. Any ideas? I have no desire to take the truck back to this place. Thanks.

You're going to need to be more specific to the behavior you're experiencing. Any error codes? If the fuel pump was replaced, its not the problem. When you say "lurching" and you think its related to this "fuel delivery", are you saying its similar to if you were to let your foot off the gas repeatedly? More info please.

Sorry to hear about your truck. What about the fuel filter? Could that be clogged? Water in the gas tank? How is the transmission?

I think you should take it to another shop for diagnosis/second opinion.

Regards, JC.

I would try to get my money back if all they did was replace something and it didnt fix anything.

just off the top of my head -
you say plugs and wires fairly new, how about the coil(s)? don't know what kind of ignition your truck has, but, my old hyundai behaved similar to what you were describing when one of it's coil packs went bad.(had 2 packs that each did2 cyl)

Do these still have the TFI ignition modules? Those used to flake out all the time.

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like they threw a part and charged you for the wrong stuff. I'd hope they at least work to fix it and throw some of the profit from the last job back at you in good faith towards fixing this issue.

No CEL, haven't checked for error codes. The lurching feels like inconsistent fuel flow.

Swapped the fuel filter myself. Transmission is solid. Agreed on the second opinion.

Haven't touch the coil packs.

Not familiar with the TFI, so no.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Haven't touch the coil packs.

as i said, my old car acted similarly, when one of my coil packs went/was going bad.
not to

, but if it were me, before throwing more parts & money at the problem, I'd either test the coil packs, or have them tested. most autozones should be able to do this, if not other parts stores, or you if you have a multimeter, and know what you are looking for.

I had a 90 Tempo and the FP failed. After the third pump(two after market pumps didn't perform right and lurched like yours) I finally got one that worked. It was a Ford pump from my local Ford dealer. Since that experience I will only buy FPs from Ford. Here's a tip. Hook up a fuel pressure tester to the fuel rail if you have the know how. When mine lurched and coughed the fuel pressure was up and down. Or have the shop show you the pressure readings with a guage attached to the rail. Make them do that!!
