My dog ate an enormous rawhide chew.....

My dogs used to down those 2 feet long rawhides regularly, in record time with no ill effects. By which I mean they were not affected in a negative manner.
Of course, they all weighed over 100lbs. For such a small guy, that's a lot of skin to eat.

I think what scared me the most was all the junk the hides are treated with in China - I thought I poisoned the little devil. The reports are now filtering in that he finished it before noon - I thought it was late afternoon according to kid #2. All things will pass....he's not bloated.

I have 3 dogs and I never give them rawhide anything. My Sheltie and the Cocker like to get 1 or 2 milk bones a day. The Lab turns his nose up and will not try a milk bone. I hope the very best for your little one. I will remember him in my prayers tonight. Please keep us posted on his progress.

our dog eats socks... used to be only teensy baby socks but recently she shallowed an adult (thick wooly winter) sock. passed them all OK but our lawn is starting to look weird - socks everywhere! i don't know where she gets them...

He was real eager to get outside this AM, but appears no worse for the wear, maybe he's at about 80-90% of his usual self this AM. I'm throwing the remaining chews in the garbage.

I'm glad your dog seems to be okay so far - I'm sorry, but I'm killing myself trying not to laugh reading this!

Rawhide has a wierd efect on certain dogs. My in-laws have a lab/malmute(?) mixed dog, and rawhide makes it really, really vicious. Won't stop growling while eating it, and if you come within a foot of it, it snaps and snarls like a wild animal. Take the rawhide away, and the dogs snaps back to being the most tame, docile pet it usually is...rawhide is stickly banned in that house!

Even if you cut the rawhide into small pieces, the sharp edges might hurt him if he swallows the entire rawhide.

Hopefully the acid in your dog's stomach quickly breaks down the rawhide.

Here's a pic of the boy from late last year:

Thanks - it were't funny last night. He had this "help me daddy" look in his eyes. I'm also glad he didn't have a [censored] fit all over the floors last night. He woke me at about 3:15AM......no I didn't turn the lights on to youtube the blessed event.

Wife reports he is resting comfartably.

If we could genetically re-engineer the canine intestinal tract, you might be able to setup some regenerative product cycle.

I mean those coffee beans pull large coin...

My 70 lb Shepard/Pit bull mix (I think) eats those things all the time like that. What's really disturbing is how quick she can take out one of those 2 foot cow bones from Wal-Mart. I can't understand how she still has teeth or intact bowels. Glad your dog is okay.

The doggies just love the pig ears. I haven't tasted them myself, but I believe dog's prefer the flavor of swine over the rawhide.

Thank you for the update. I am so glad he is alright. He is a handsome little man.

Just remember that dogs are tamed, and in most cases mentally retarded and physically deformed wolves. We made them that way, but they are still able to eat bones, skin, pretty much any part of an animal, that's how they were made.
