My DIY record keeping example

I think it's overkill, but what the heck, it sets the standard. No question as to what was used and when. If it floats your boat, have at it. I kinda like it.

I just jot down notes in a logbook (same book is used for fillups and repairs) and transfer to Excel when I feel like it. I generally drive out of warranty and IME dealerships don't care about such records. Especially not when it'll just go out back and be sold wholesale. Private sale, at some price point I don't think the next owner cares.

Now maybe for some exotic or something that retains high value... might be worthwhile to go the extra distance in record keeping. I just don't own anything that warrants that.

I keep oil and filter receipts, take a picture of the oil draining and refilling, waste oil and filter and add to an excel spreadsheet along with all maintenance checks, repairs. 2013 Hyundai in warranty.

On the Volvos out of warranty, receipts in a folder and all maintenance in a spreadsheet.
