my dentist has bad breath!

we luv our dentist, he treats peds and adults so all of us can see him, he is a nice guy, soft spoken, excellent chairside manner.
I went down for a cleaning and the girls there spoil moi. cleaning went fine, few x-rays, few closeup pics of my coffee stained molars.
then came the doc, sat next to me and checked a few things and began to explain a few details.
I was not even listening, I was crying out in my mind, someone yank me out of here, his bad breath was so overwhelming.
First I was in disbelief, a dentist with bad breath, come-on!
He left and all I can remember was bye-bye. my neck muscles began to relax, I was slowly begin beyound the stench.
I walked out to check-out and they asked how was your treatment...I was like I dunno what to say!

I was thinking to myself is this the only dentist with bad breath? who on top of that does not wear a mask!

so what do I do? keep quiet? or someone break the new to the gals or even the doc himself?
mind you that not only is he our dentist, he is also neighbor from few hours down. So should I just keep quiet?

If he is the nice guy you say he is, he would want to know his breath was bad! Think I'd mention what ever he ate before seeing me must have been mighty spicy...could have used a mint. If he is accepting new clients (well probably not in MI) it could make a bad impression.

The same thing happened to me about 30 years ago. Orthodontist had some rancid breath but rinsed after an office girl mentioned it to him. I hated that guy...

Ask him what mouthwash he recommends for you.
That may be subtle enough to remind him to floss, brush, and use mouthwash himself.

My old girlfriend is a physician, and she would not even drink coffee because of possible breath problems. And she always wore expensive perfume to work.

Isn't it hard to believe that a dentist would not be especially concerned about this?

He may be dieting via starvation. I think it's ketones being aerobically blown off. Mouth wash won't really help it.

I would have told him right there. You were a paying customer, right? Something along the lines of, "Listen, I don't mean to be anything buy honest, but you need to hit that mouthwash." It sucks to be the guy who has to say something like that, but it's better for both of you if it gets said. A lot of people wouldn't do it, but I just don't really care when money is involved.

I would never insult a man who is willing and able to torture me in any number of ways. He IS a dentist after all; the worst of all doctors.

his drill and the roots of my teeth don't need to accidently meet while I have a mouth full of cotton and other instruments of pain.

no sir, I will not approach him directly and not sure even if it is "safe" to tell the girls in the office.

let's say I stop going to him and tell the office of his breath issue, he is neighbor from 8 houses down, I might accidently go to his house for halloween or even walk past his house during my morning walks, god knows what kind of prescription meds he is on.

I agree, dentists can be the WORST of em all greedy bastages. he is nicer/better, a gem among a bunch of rotten pros.

I can just ponder at what he is capable of with his little drill, maybe hit a nerve in the mouth to make a man impotent

Among white collar professionals, I rank dentists up there with lawyers in terms of greed and ethics. If they didn't have their DDS they'd probably be peddling used cars. I know some dentists at a personal level, they are VERY greedy.
