My daughter's Jeep is totaled

Now my 20 yr old daughter gets to experience the joy of insurance companies, whiplash, back pain, etc.
It's excellent that she went to the doctor for an examination and a written report. Be extremely mindful of possible consequences down the road. My wife developed life-long debilitating injuries from a head-on hit from an idiot that crossed the yellow line.

This isn't to frighten you. Just good advice to monitor the health situation seriously. Fortunately, young people are more resilient. Best wishes and prayers that all turns out well.

Agreed. Unfortunately, this happened on the interstate which she can't avoid traveling on.
Fortunately - I can and do avoid the interstate as well - that costs me more than minutes - but having Bubba tailgating me in his HD diesel - whilst pulling a trailer - no thanks … They are doing 80-90 MPH …

My wife experienced the same thing this past June . Rear ended , car was totaled . Multiple injuries and still dealing with it . Assuming the other guy was properly insured she WILL get a phone call if she hasn't already . They will want to settle the " Property Damage " which is her car and also talk about her injuries . DO NOT discuss injuries . Way too early for that . Feel free to message me and I can give you some pointers . I won't open that can of worms here .

Same, wife and daughter - airbags and seatbelts fired …
They were fine - Tahoe damage $9600 - did not hurt the frame …

I'm probably going to put one of these on my trailer hitch. Just as an added precaution and make sure that the person that rear ends gets their radiator and engine block completely bashed in!

And @nomas

The only risk with this is - it also focuses the full impact directly to the frame of your own vehicle, from a central point. So yes, it can undoubtedly cause more damage to the person behind, but it also bypasses any crush zone presented by the two vehicles and finds hard parts quickly, which can in turn cause more damage to your own vehicle, whereas without the hitch it might have just crushed the bumper and rear plate.

Sometimes when you get in an accident the insurance that really counts is the one you pay for every time you fill it up. The extra cost of having extra vehicle around you when things happen.

Everyone knows a 1800 lb vehivle is not going to protect its occupants any where near as well as a 3200 lb vehicle will.

Its wisely to have that extra metal around any driver who has only been driving less than 10 years.

I think as new as possible is most important but also bigger is better. If budget allows, new and big is best. But if budget doesn’t allow, or a big vehicle just isn’t sensible, just go as new as possible.

I think that it's wise for any driver to a large degree. Defensive driving only goes so far. In my daughter's case this week, she didn't have any opportunity to avoid the accident. The fact that she was in a fairly hefty SUV as opposed to something like a Honda Fit or a Cooper Mini probably significantly improved her outcome.

That’s a true, true statement here…

I got rear ended by one of the prettiest girls in my graduating class right out front of our high school. She hit me fairly decent. The front of her car was quite tore up but the back end of my Fors Probe was not as bad as I thought it was going to be right after I got out of the car. Her car weighed less than mine that was definitely true in that instance.

You should have told her she has to go out on date with you to make it up to you, lol

If you are in Washington, the state's insurance regulations are very favorable to you. The other driver's insurance has to pay for a rental car, even if she does not rent one. Before you engage an attorney, see if the other driver's insurance company is going to pay policy limits for her injuries. When negotiating on the value of the jeep, do not let them neglect to add sales tax, dealer fees and license. If injuries turn out to be more severe than you think, I hope your daughter has uninsured/underinsured drivers insurance. Look to your daughter's personal injury protection insurance for initial medical costs.

Back in 2007 a truck rear ended my boat while I was driving home on Hwy 12 over White Pass. The adjuster tried to cheat me. It cost them. That was when I learned, and applied, the insurance regulations We were fortunate in that there were no injuries, other than the emotional one for the loss of my beautiful SeaRay.

That was 18 years ago. Do not rely on me, laws probably have changed. Do not hesitate to pay for a consultation with an attorney before proceeding.
