That's laughable that you declare 2 year old cars as having "almost perfect" transmissions.

Same as bringing up anything in regards to a Nissan. Eventually CVT is going to take over the thread! LOL!

Looks like the usual BITOG style..... Criticize people for taking their car to dealers for work, bringing up random, off-topic scenarios, ridiculing others that aren't as financially perfect as they are, pointing out how someone should have done something after the fact, suggesting that every car repair that you don't DIY is a rip-off/scam, and so on.

The OP hasn't been back since his one and only post.

I suspect you have all been played.

2017 Mazda CX5
Havoline Pro DS 0w20
Roki OEM filter.

You're just upset because you accused the new member / OP of being a troll, when in fact, it was later evident that he is not.

You said you added me to your ignore list last week because I drove my car 6 miles with 3 quarts of fresh oil in the crankcase.

What's the matter, did you miss me?

The part failed (failed to start my car), therefore, I called it a failure.
I kind of wish you had kept me on your ignore list.
You're just being a tough person to get along with.
Quit nit picking.

Not directed at you, but if people responding could focus, stick to the actual topic/question, it would be a lot more pleasant. It's the classic example of what people say about opinions and posterior openings....

LOL, seriously, you summed it up very well.

It was not a failed engine or transmission and it didn't involve thousands of dollars in repairs but it was a failed component that inconvenienced me and prevented me from using the car for a week.
But the main point I got from the replies in this post is that I should not consider trading the car in for another car, just based on this one incident.
If I had to put hundreds of dollars into it once a month for the next several months, that would be different but that probably will not happen.

Did you buy buy the car new or used? That first year depreciation on any brand new vehicle is massive.

If bought used then depreciation is not a significant factor at all.

Why, after all you are going to have disagreements in many threads, if you locked every thread where folks disagree with each other you'd have NO threads at all.

Mods please do NOT lock this thread.

He added the same type of expensive fluid [made by Motorcraft] that the local Ford dealer was going to add, but for about 1/2 of the cost.
Ford wanted about $320, this guy did it for about $160. He's a good man and I doubt he added the wrong fluid.

Yet you mentioned "Motorcraft ATF" which is NOT DCT fluid. What did the repair order say on it?

I'm not being obnoxious I'm just hoping the guy didn't make a mistake. Never hurts to double check, if the wrong fluid was put in it was destroy the unit.

I got it used with 57k miles last August.

I hear you.
I found the receipt from the tranny place.
It says "service transmission" and "fill with Motorcraft XD-11 and then QDC (or ADC) fluid".
Under that is 1488 which may mean 1488 cc of fluid it took

He told me that my old fluid was not too dirty at all.

The window sticker says it's got the TIVCT I-4 engine with 6 speed powershift tranny.

Excellent news that is exactly the right fluid for your car. Plus his observation about the fluid being clean is also what should be expected since a dry clutch doesn't contaminate the fluid with much debris over time since the fluid doesn't contact the actual clutch like a wet clutch would.

Sounds like you are 100% A OK!

OK, thanks for the heads up.

Got my car back yesterday. The new switch was $40.27. The labor was $358.87

Yikes!!

The service mgr said he had never seen one fail on a car as new as mine with 58k miles on it.

It's running good. It seems unlikely I'll have any more trouble with the car.
In the Spring I'll do an OCI with new QS AD 5w20 and a Motorcraft FL-910S.
