Musk Says Tesla ‘Dug Our Own Grave’ With The Cybertruck

More details. Turn out the range of the Cyberbeast is only 301 miles and Dual Motor is 318 miles.

The 320 miles / 340 miles they “estimated” is only for all-season tire equipped models sometime next year. Current models only get All-Terrain tires for now.

I’d bet these things never break 300 miles real-world.

Sounds about right. They definitely got ahead of themselves with this one.

Yeah. They tend to be late. The prices in this market have kicked everyone in the privates. The fact that it's been pushed back so many times through inflation has only made it worse. I don't think anyone thought they would actually be able to do it for $39k when they originally announced it, but there would be no way to pull it off today.
I think we can agree, in that case. Tesla should not have made a marketing announcement about the price. I cant remember a major automotive maker announcing a new product at $20,000 more than announced and five years late?
From my point of view, this company is a mess. Their model launches are like Elons last two Space X Starship launches.
BTW- I dont really hate the look of the truck. Its is for those who want to be different, see my post below this one.

Typical Musk, regarding specs and price prior to release. Maybe this will be his Edsel. Time will tell.
Yeah, I dont disagree but I do think initially for a few years they will sell what they can make (and at a possible loss no less) Many millions of vehicles on the road and there are people out there that clamor to be the center of attention. The truck will do it as they drive through their communities.

More power to the people buying them I guess. Edsel was a flop, lets see if history repeats itself with this.

I know it's difficult for some of you guys to be fair to Elon. But regarding the announced pricing on the Cybertruck back in November of 2019 and what the prices are today some 4 years later and criticizing Elon for the price increases is pretty ignorant of the increases in materials and labor and pretty much everything else these last few years.

I guess you think he just purposefully misled potential buyers. And the company is a mess ? Their financials and sales figures sure don't look that way to anyone who has the slightest understanding of business.

A guy who likes to dish it out better be able to take it.
One of the problems that I have with Musk's public persona is that he's notoriously thin-skinned.
Yeah like the time he criticized Fords production plant and assembly line speed. I think it was Jim Farley whomever was ceo told Musk "we assemble ford truck three times faster with better quality than Tesla. Come on down and see how its really done". Musk was mad hes such a crybaby.

Even if it came out the year the Muskrat claimed the batteries alone would have been close to 25-30 grand. Someone published recently that the cybertruck is going to lose $20k a vehicle to manufacture it at current specs. Thats alot of money X 200,000 vehicles per year.

When I first saw it, I thought "what a big mistake". Now, with slight styling changes and time to get used to it, I think a lot of people are going to be willing to pay a premium to get one. The price will have to drop to sell large numbers.
If a fault develops, like the stainless steel panels/frame begin to crack, that might put the last nail in it's coffin.

The meltdown he is having right now....

A mint Edsel is worth a lot more now then it was in 1958. Give the Cyber Truck 65 years and it might be the same story. ;)

A/T tires are heavy adding a lot of unspring mass. Not good for range of a BEV.

I've read that the Cybertruck has cost Tesla around 2 Billion in development and testing costs. I'd bet they're losing way more than $40k a piece. Isn't that battery alone $25-30 grand?
Only $2 billion? The ford Taurus cost $3.5 billion 40 years ago. If they sell 1 million cyber trucks that’s $2,000 of R&D per vehicle.

You mean it was ignorant of Elon Musk to announce a new product with the price $20,000 off and deliver a product five years late. Not the public.
I dont remember that happening with other car makers recently.

Ummm ... yeah, the company is a mess with product launches and Elon Musks ignorant announcements ... you can run on "fumes" for only so long, hopefully they "gas up" before it's too late or the established companies will run him over in the USA.
(in the USA anyway, there will always be a demand for compact generic EVs overseas, jsut like Honda is the worlds largest motorcycle maker but that includes mopeds.)

The sad thing is I don't think it's hurting them. There's very few that are Tesla fans that won't continue to buy the cars despite what Elon says. I don't care for the looks of the Cybertruck and I'm not buying one, but I'll likely buy more Teslas. I think it says more about the current products and the charging network if anything. The EV market is basically begging someone to knock Tesla off of the pedestal and just give us a better, more useable product. It's just not happening for some reason. There's not another manufacturer that has taken off. Kia looks like they could do it, but again the charging network isn't there for CCS in my area and that might be the same. I definitely see why the overwhelming amount of EVs here are Tesla, though I see Bolts as I'm sure the price point makes them attractive. To a lesser degree I see Mach-Es and Rivians, but that's likely due to price. There's 1 CCS charger location in town and thats' where I see the Rivians.
