True.

Without a cam that has lobes timed differently, firing order changes are impossible. Also, re-arranging the spark timing on an engine with coil per cylinder ignition might be a problem.

However, the crankshaft doesn't need to be altered.

It's a cam swap away if we are talking older stuff.
