multiple break-in oil changes

I bought a new '23 Toyota Venza(in my signature) with a similar hybrid system as your Sienna.
I did my first OCI myself at ~2,500 miles and the 2nd OCI again myself at ~5,000 miles. Then let the dealer do the Toyota FREE service at ~10,000 miles. Again, I have now gone to ~15,000 OCI myself and will later let the dealer do the final FREE 20,000 mile service. I will stay with the 5,000 mile OCI until we get rid of the car.
I had no Hyundai dealer oil plan with my 2017 Sonata 2.4L but engine specific concerns led me to a first oil change at 750 miles , then 2,500 miles and then by 4,000 miles afterwards . In any other healthy engine I’d probably go 2,500 before the first OCI .

Many here make a claim or say something to the effect that not doing an early change is hurting the engine which is different than saying (like some here have) that it just makes them feel better doing it. Who is saying that if you'll don't run XYZ additive you'll hurt your engine or cut its life short by not running it?
Right. I don't think it's fair to make us older folks run anything. Why can't we just walk the additives instead of running them?

Way back in 1988 my then girl friend purchased a new Suzuki Samurai. I was young and board so I purchased a new yellow oil ( yellow was coolant pan perhaps but I used it for oil ). I changed her break-in oil myself early at I think it was 300 miles.

With that new yellow pan and changing still clear oil on a sunny day that pan was full of "forbidden glitter"
Looked like fools gold in a mountain stream. That was 37 years ago but I can not unsee that glitter and has haunted every new car, truck, motorcycle , lawn mower purchase the last 37 years! I change my oil early in everything, always have, always will....

My newest Harley, I did a Bel-Ray mineral change at 100 miles , again at 500 miles then the first dealer 1K service with my supplied Bel-Ray Synthetic blend and now regular oil changes.
I try and do my cars and trucks at 300-500 miles or 1K at a minimum then regular oil changes...
At least I don't see that glitter in my head ...

I’ve always done VERY early 1st oil changes
I’ve built a few inches over the years. I rebuilt automotive engines as well as aircraft engine set GE. I’ve seen the crap that gets stuck in oil filters and oil strainers.

Some think it’s a waste of time, some think it’s a waste of oil, some think it’s worthwhile.

Luckily, we have the option to choose what we think is best for us.

My opinion is that 5000 mile OCI is excessive when Toyota recommends 10,000 miles and the engine in a hybrid only runs about 50% of the time.
Yeah, that’s a whole different topic all together.
If you give a crap about your car, it’s best to stay away from a 10k OCI routine

I beg to differ. Many people on here do 10k OCIs successfully and we care about our cars. It’s all about using the right oil and having the right driving conditions (and an engine that is easier on the oil). Doing 5k intervals would just double my costs without any benefits, and I would have to change the oil in my Civic twice as often.

Now that we are getting a new vehicle, I do plan on changing it myself, at 1,000, and not resetting anything (my understanding is the 1st change is free). Again I go back to what the svc mgr told me in Dec. 2006. If you own it, do it, if you lease it, just do what's required. If it were him and he owned my car, he'd change the oil at 1,000. The worst thing is the waste of the oil and time, not that bad. But I actually don't trust most dealers to actually do the work--they may see 800 or 1,000 on the odometer and customer is here for his free oil change, and say no need, and just not do the work. I would mark the oil filter, just as soon as I know where it is but I hear it's very accessible...
