Ms. Simone Biles, the GOAT

I didn’t see the comments that were removed….. but any athlete at that level took many years of hard work, dedication and training to win gold medals. 🥇

Good for her.

I have never watched the Olympics over the past 50 years. I have zero interest in watching.

I'm happy for her! Pressure and nerves got the better of her at times in the past, but this Olympic cycle seems to be her "victory lap" as one of the all-time greats!

In terms of jumping ability, maybe she should move to track and field, the high jump, next? How fun would that be?

She's 4'8". The appearance of her jumping ability (which is great) seems amplified relative to her height. But with an absolute bar to reach, it's different.

The following is not derogatory, it is my opinion, based on the facts.

Most medals of all time in gymnastics, sure.....greatest of all time, I think not.. Just like calling Labron the Goat, and arguably Tom Brady.

She does have amazing capabilities, of course coupled with the ability to quit on her and her teammates, to me that is not greatness, that is something else.

Point being, just because someone holds the most points scored, yards carried, games won, does not mean that they are the GOAT. That title encompasses much more than just the cold stats. It encompasses leadership, perseverance, and self sacrifice.

This is one major flaw of sports culture today. It is a different time with different players, in a different world.

Is traveling still incur a penalty in the NBA? Seems not......if so, we need to remove about 40% of King James points, due to the fact that he travels countlessless per game.

Michael Jordan in the Last Dance documentary says: "If you speak Michael Jordan, than you must speak Scottie Pippen". That is leadership, that is greatness.

Who here remembers Kerri Strug? Remember the girl who landed a near 9.7, with one ankle and won the Gold for us? (USA) To me that is greatness.

Oksana Chusovitina, Chusovitina has competed in the Olympics since 1992 and has five complicated moves named after her.

Larisa latynina held the record for gymnastic medals for nearly 50 years.

So in conclusion, I disagree with the idea that Simone Biles being the GOAT of USA or Olympic gymnastics, killer and powerful, not the GOAT.

That's silly. Michael Jordan quit on basketball after his father was murdered but came back What happened with Biles was that her ability to compete was just off for a while and what she did was inherently dangerous.

There isn't anyone who is in gymnastics who doesn't believe she's the greatest to ever participate. That' doesn't mean she was perfect at all times nor that she didn't have times where her abilities were hampered.

Ms. Biles did not quit on anyone. She was injured; a mental injury known as "Twisties". She withdrew from team competition after one event but was still committed to helping her team win however she could.

The “twisties” are the sudden inability for a gymnast to make the required spins — or sometimes any spins — for a particular maneuver.
"It's basically like your mind and your body is at a disconnect," Biles described. She went on to compare it to a person suddenly waking up and having no idea how to drive a car anymore.
"You've been doing something for so long and you now no longer have control and it's terrifying," she said.

Biles was seen coaching her teammates from the sidelines during the final three events of the competition, cheering them on during their routines and offering them words of encouragement during breaks.

While Jordan Chiles — her training partner and club teammate — took center stage for her floor routine, Biles reportedly imitated some of the moves as the 20-year-old completed them under the bright lights. And when Sunisa Lee stepped up for her routine, Biles was "screaming" in support.

Biles returned days later to compete and win the bronze on the balance beam while doing a slightly altered routine that did not include and twisting parts.

I am not sure where you are getting your information, but it is hardly fact.

I competed in gymnastics as well as other in junior high and high school, and am well aware of the "twisties". I also know that it is a convenient excuse.

Gymnastics is almost inarguably the most dangerous sport, and very tough on the body. In fact, I am suffering from something right this very minute, from the rigors of gym. The fact that it is more dangerous with an inability is unfortunate, but as a similie, Keri Strug had the "broken anklies" and did not decide to sit it out. She landed a 9.7, and got gold. That is leadership, that is greatness. It was also a time when Olympics athletes did not have it as a full time job, yet another dynamic.

Point is, being the GOAT, is more than just numbers on a board. I am not refuting she is a great gymnast. She is violently powerful, fast, and superbly talented, but GOAT she is not, especially when you pin on your own rank. The greats do not wear a crown proclaiming their greatness. That is a name given to them by those to whom they competed against.

She did not even qualify for the uneven bars this time.

1. Jordan RETIRED AFTER winning a 3rd STRAIGHT Championship… He didn’t quit say like in the middle of the regular season. Leaving Phil Jackson and his teammates high and dry.

2. Jordan had talked with his father about playing baseball before his father was killed.

3. Therefore Jordan went to play baseball to HONOR his murdered father…

4. Jordan came back after minor league baseball experience because he was inspired by those baseball teammates which helped him come out of retirement after his father was killed.

Then, led them to 3 more straight titles. Jordan did not have to switch to 4 different teams to win a championship. All while actually dribbling the ball, as per NBA regulations.

@JeffKeryk I apologise for getting your thread off topic slightly, but context is important to an argument in both directions.
