MPG dropped after switch to 5w20

Ok im going to try this auto rx stuff when i get paid this week. How many times should I do it? Its pretty expensive stuff.

Also from that long paragraph of really smart oil terminology i kinda got the impression that I should go back to the 10w30? Not trying to sound like a smart *** , but i just dont understand what all that meant.

Also one thing i forgot to add and i dont know how i forgot this. But one thing that has come back is the piston slap as ford calls it. I used to get it when I first bought the truck. Was told to goto m1 full syn 10w30 and the mc filter. It went away. Switched to the 5w30, didn't really ever here it. Now with the 5w20 i can hear it all the time and even after its warmed up i still hear it.

Are you the original owner of the truck, and how often has the oil been changed? Most engines run on M1 stay very clean assuming a reasonable oil change interval. Since you had been using M1 for some time before trying the 5W20, there may be little to gain from an Auto RX treatment.

Im not the original owner. I've owned it going on 3 years now. From what I can tell it was well maintained. But it was a fleet truck so who knows. I did use the Mobil 1 for nearly 2 1/2 years.

if i can get my *** out of bed early enough tomorrow i'll get the filter/oil. but it wont be changed till saturday the earliest. I've got the second shift at the pd this week.

It is physically impossible to have less fluid friction when switching to a PAO basestock formulated product from group II and group III basestock technology.

I have a subscription to a trade magazine, "Lubes'n'Greases". In the Sept, 2004 issue there is an article about the ConocoPhillips new GF-4 pcmo's. ConocoPhillips officials declined to disclose the type of base oils used, but said they consider Group III, PAO, and synth esters to all be synthetic. A ConocoPhillips commercial lube manager was quoted as saying that synthetics are the principal base stock in the company's blend products.
I wonder if "principal" means over 50 % synthetic (probably Group III) base stock?

Well I switched back to mobil 1 10w30 full syn. And I have noticed a huge difference in the way te engine is driving. I also have seen my mileage go up too. Not going through as much gas like before.

I'll keep a more long term report. And report back later on.

Well im wishing i never did switch to that 5w20. Im wondering how much money i would've saved on gas. There is noticeable difference in driveability. It feels torquey

Whats the next weight of oil after 10w30?

From some information I've heard 5w-20 oil was put into production for predetermined obsolesence.

I can buy the CAFE argument, but if Ford wanted their engines to wear out faster there would be much cheaper & easier ways to do it than getting an entirely new oil approved through the EPA!

'From some information I've heard' Elvis is still alive too...

The additive package may be 200% "stronger" in the Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend but I'm pretty sure Mobil 1 will still beat it in the Sequence III/IV tests by a wide margin because of it's superior basestock.

How would he know unless he did a $400 analysis?

The right base oil mix and additive package is what makes one oil better than another.

Mobil 1 must have some pretty nice friction modifiers-improvers.
I observed a similar thing in the past in my car a few years ago.

i know this isn't a long term update, but mand what a difference.

The engine doesnt seem to rev up like it used too. I mean when i give it gas it used to fly up to 5000rpms fast, now it dont. It also just seems more torquey. Mileage is way up too.
