I have been seeing advice and videos about adding zerk grease fittings to blade spindles. Seems silly to me since the bearings used are closed bearings. Even if you add the grease you would have to fill the entire void and can't be sure the top bearing will get any additional lubrication while the bottom bearing will probably leak grease out the bottom. Some examples remove the top seal on the bottom bearing and the lower seal on the top bearing. Anybody actually do this and did it prove effective? Bearings are cheap. My BigDog C142 is 14 years old and still running on the original spindle bearings. Maybe I have just been lucky but if I was going to go to this much trouble I would just change the bearings and be done with it.

I changed mine, they were original from 2013. 3blade deck. I changed the bearings , rather than remove the spindle.
I think you are right, not worth messing around with, for some bearings that last a long time as is.
My buddy has over 2200 hours on sealed spindles with his exmark lazer z. High end machines use high quality bearings. I have a Kubota with sealed spindles, only 300 hours but, (knock on wood) still smooth.
Cub Cadet Z force SX 54 here. My mower does have a jerk fitting on each of the 3 spindles. It appears that bearings are closed type but I still pump soe grease in fittings once a year. Probably will keep the water away and avoid rust. We will see.
