MOTUL HYBRID 0W-8 VOA or UOA?

Yes thags what I mean, the way they word it I'm chained down if I want warranty. I don't dispute the fact you can run up to 0w-20 on these engines as they were specced to do so on the past.

But I can't argue that if it were to come down to it.

I doubt I could argue that, the manual is pretty clear it needs to be TGMO 0w-8 or jaso glv1.
Read the article. Might get some news by the end of the month.

Read the article.
Yeah I will, but until Toyota/lexus specifies it on my car explicitly an article on the web won't help. Also I don't even think they sell that type of oil yet, it's already insanely hard to find jaso glv1

I would not be surprised if Toyota japan does this year after GLV-2 is released. Patience.
Yup that's the plan, I'm hoping I can switch to a 0w-20, or even 0w-16. But the next problem will be me struggling to even find and buy that oil.

Or you could be under high speeds or extreme loads all the time. 🧐
Toyota is known to void warranty for extreme use, for eg. the gr86 has cases of denied warranty when used on track. So that's probably another reason for them to void the warranty.

Toyota US maybe. Unheard of manufacturers checking anything other then that the service schedule was followed here.
And maybe overrevving which is far more likely when driven on track, and is logged by ECU.

Your manual states that oil grade is a condition of your warranty?

Would not have to. I do not live in a country neighboring the land of CAFE regulations.
I live in the land of free oil choices.

Again that wording is purely for emission regulations in the US. Doubt you have your own manual in CAN... ?
Get good layers and you should win. Strongly doubt they will ever check if you have any trouble.

Bör = should, not must.
I have some faith in this Nordic text of an owner's manual. Not many places in the world are going to see the extreme temperatures like in Northern Finland or Norway except maybe in Siberia. I just looked up a similar model of vehicle but it was a 24 on the Exxon Mobil 1 web page in the UK and they recommend a 16 weight. I would say at least in the summer if I was driving it anywhere in Europe they had less restriction on speed I would not feel comfortable with an eight weight oil going a hundred miles an hour plus. If I was going to keep this vehicle for over 100,000 miles I would break myself free of what oil they are almost demanding and even in that case if that's how they want to roll with it then they should be providing the oil free of charge by the Moss Magnuson.

@lowon my guess is you could at least use a 0w12 or 0w16. If your manual says 8 fine; i presume your gonna get a couple free changes, yes? Maybe worry after your done with those. Id be hoping for a 5w8 like Ravenol did with their 5w16 oil. Maybe SAE 8 Wt Mono? Picture of new car??

I can’t answer your question but hopefully provide more useful information than most posters in this thread.

I would ask your dealer for a discount on the oil. I paid around $16/quart for 0W8 at Taylor Toyota in Regina. I also get a discount when purchasing three or more oil filters at a time.

I checked Eneos 0w8 at Napa. It’s around $21/litre so not much of a saving.

A friend was in North Dakota recently and brought me back a couple jugs of Mobil 1 0W8 for something like $27USD for five quarts. Hopefully we get it up here soon.

Sounds like you’re ponying up for some TGMO or Motul then.
Yep looks like it. I want to go motul because it's literally 1/2 price of the TGMO but I'd like a bit more data on the additive package before I hop on board.

I don't have any other choice locally, because mobil1 isn't available here yet.

No it wasn't an over rev, Toyota USA and Toyota Canada are managed by Toyota NA, so pretty similar uppe management.

Your manual states that oil grade is a condition of your warranty?
Which will show what?
See above.

If you don't use the correct oil grade then clearly the manufacturer has grounds to void your warranty if the engine blows up because improper lubrication was used. Especially because the owners manual explicitly states what to use, i.e. jaso glv1, and 0w-8.

The ux300h has different requirements compared to the ux250h, the owners manual changed and some parts of the power train changed too (much more powerful rear electric motor). One of those changes is a mandated 0w-8 oil weight.

The surprising thing about hybrids is that the engine is off for a lot of the time, even cruising at 120km/h the engine will shut off if the battery charge is high enough and if there isnt too much load demand. Because of this behavior I wouldn't go thicker than 0w-16 because the oil might be too cold to be able to provide immediate protection in -30C conditions when the engine is off and has to immediately restart.

Unfortunately not during the warranty period, afterwards yes (I'll move to 0w16) but during no.

I would take advantage of the free oil change, but unfortunately Lexus is cheap and I won't be getting any free oil changes at all. This is kind of strange because high end manufacturers tend to give free oil changes for a few years, for example my m2 has free oil changes for 4 years, and so did my mdx.

I'm trying to attach images from my phone but it keeps saying it's too large.
