Hi,

My 5.3l gm engine is making noise at cold start, it is valves lifters tick as per GM tech, the repair did not fix it, however I found that when I used Motorcraft 5w30 premium synthetic blend the noise is gone!, when I switched back to AcDelco 5w30 synthetic blend dexos , the noise is back. I thought Acdelco dexos is the best and recommended oil but I am disappointed!

What is really in motorcraft that makes the big difference, but I also notice (but not sure!!) that oil level was lower with mileage.

Do you think there is a difference between 5w30 and 10w30 motorcraft premium synthetic blend other than the 5 and 10?
Any advice please!

This also could have been the filter making the difference.
Even filters that are supposedly identical can be varied or faulty in their anti drainback valving.

Any of those Conoco / Philips clones (Motorcraft, TropArtic, Kendall) are great oils at a value price with a stout additive package. If it works for you, stick with it !
