I have heard that the Motorcraft 5w30 is a synthetic blend. Is this true? If so, what percentage is synthetic? It is $1.42 a quart at Wal-Mart. If this is true, this is a great deal.

yes it is. You can read more about it by going to the conoco site and checking out hydroclear. I beleive they tweaked the additive pack a bit for motorcraft, but its the same oil.
I see a write up for the 5w-20, but is the 5w30 the same? I couldn't find out the percentage of synthetic also. Thanks for the information. It was informative.
Here are the MSDS and data sheet on the conoco/phillips synthetic blends. They are the same across the entire conoco/phillips line. The line is made up of conoco-super all season, phillips66-tropartic, kendall-gt1, 76-super, and all evidence indicates motorcraft. MSDS says synthetic base oil 58-74%.

Did you see that new GM 5w30 spec ?
Ford , Chrysler now GM has new specs for 2005 .
So, does one have to assume that you need to get the SM, GF-4 Motorcraft 5w30 to be assured you are getting the Conoco syn-blend?
That is the MSDS for Conoco oil destined to be sold in the Asia Pacific region .
From what I've seen , the Motorcraft MSDS's are written by Ford anyway . The only way to obtain them is by fax but that MSDS , well the base components look very similar to the SL GF-3 Motorcraft 5w30 .
I don't think this is what your asking but to assure you are getting a group II/III blend the Conoco or Phillips 5w30's for sure are as compared to the API SL GF-3 Motorcraft 5w30 and the maybe that comes with it .
Make sense ? That SL Motorcraft will be gone soon anyway . We will soon see if the blends from Kendall and 76 are the exact same or not . I was told they will not be but......
EDIT:
There is a marked difference in the CCS at -30c of 6400 @ for GF-3 SL Motorctaft vs the GF-4's 4500@ -30c. Same difference applies in a freezer test . Sometimes a freezer test tells very little . I just did a little test and the GF-4 will outperform the GF-3 oil 2nd generation with moly . It was pretty easy to see the difference in those two oils .
One last thing . It is possible with the brand zinc/phos they use to still have up to 1070 ppm zinc and still be within the phos cap . If it pans out that way , that will be a large chunk of zinc for a SM GF-4 oil compared to others already out and available .

One can call the 1-800 number for Ford and give the ref number which is 173219 along with C670C04A244 and I think they will fax it .
If I buy any it will be the Phillips product with less middlemen . If I buy Motorcraft, Ford and Walmart gets my money too . I might spend the same but one person makes more money and Walmart has plenty it seems

The "back label" references to synthetic base oil will probably be widespread with the GF-4/SM oils. The 10w30 grade will probably have many Grp I plus Grp III formulations.
