Heading out for a road trip this morning. Didn't get far. oil warning light came on....looked down zero Oil pressure.
Couldn't drive it.
Got it back home and up on jack stands and this is what I found

Apparently the seam was not sealed properly. hard to believe a Motorcraft Oil filter would do this.
When installed it was hand tightened. No tools used. I did make note when I bought them that the casing seemed awfully thin and others have commented the same.

Will not use Motorcraft filters again.
Counterfeit? (Amazon)

I'll only buy brand name parts on amazon if they say shipped and sold by amazon. No third parties. The thin casing should've been a giveaway. Were you able to bend it with one hand? I don't recall ever being able to bend a filter can even slightly without hurting my hand. With two hands I can make it bend a little.

I found that thin casing was mentioned by a lot of people in a Google search. Motorcraft filters have also gone with cheaper bypass valves.

No. The one in the box looks normal. You're right. That one seems like it was under a lot of pressure. Could the relief valve have failed?
I refilled it with oil and all seems ok (so far). I have an oil pressure gauge in the vehicle. It's reading normal pressures

They are faking oil filters now?
White can oil filters can be made for $1 or just under so slapping a motorcraft print on the already thin white can and selling it for several times more in droves especially when they're sold in a big pack of 12 and saying bulk price on some advertisement to get volume makes tons of money and most wouldn't suspect it.
