Motorcraft FL820S Interval

I do lots of short trips, but also some highway runs. Can the FL820S safely go longer than 6-8 months if the mileage is in the 3,000-4,000 mile range. 2001 lincoln Towncar 4.6 V8. What do you guys think the longest safe interval is for this type of driving.

I have been running them 5k/12 months in my 2001 Grand Marquis for years.

I'd say whatever you're comfortable with for your oil oci, the FL820S will handle.

Your driving profile, with owners manual as a guide should determine oil oci, filter change would correspond.

Yep, the Motorcraft is a solid filter that should be fine for that.

The manual written in 2000 or 2001 says 3 months or 3,000 miles for severe service, but I think the oil specs have improved some and just wanted to be sure the filter could take a longer interval.

Yeah, 5k/6 months would be an average minimum. If you're comfortable going further on the oil, the 820S should have no issues. IMO, up to 1 year max, good to go.

But again, the oil oci would lead, the filter would follow.

I do 10K OCIs with smaller MC filters in my Duratechs over 8-9 months. No problems.

That's because you use Mobil-1
