I changed the oil on my wife's '97 Expedition 4.6L w/109k miles Thursday night. Today I cut open the Motorcraft FL820S oil filter & took pics. I didn't notice anything unusual, just a filter soaked with used oil. The filter media didn't have any sludge or anything else that would concern me. I'm very happy with it's performance.
This was a 4k mile (4 months) run on Quaker State Peak Performance 5w30. Make-up oil was 1 qt. QS & 1/4 qt. Mobil 1 0w40 that I had left over from my VW's previous oil change.
The MC filter help up extremely well.
The construction was so good, I had a very difficult time getting it apart. The filter media was glued to the metal end caps on both ends, so I had to tear it apart, which was not easy. The orange piece in the picture (ADBV)???, was still very, very soft, not showing any signs of hardening.
If you've been considering using MC products, I HIGHLY recommend them. Enjoy the pics!
And here's the Expedition:
