Less than 5000 miles on oil. Filter was bought from Walmart. Recent oil filter QA issue had me worried. Never cut open a filter before. All is well, likely to continue with Motorcraft.... there simply isn't a brand that does not have issues lately.

The Motorcraft FL 910S is a very good filter. I used many on our Focus and Escape when they were $3.97 (only a few years ago). Now that they have almost doubled in price...I'm less likely to use them.
The same can be said for Motorcraft 5w20 synblend which used to be a great deal at WM but now cost the same or more than many 'full synthetics'.
PS: I'm not sure there is a "lot of crud" in your engine....that filter looks pretty clean to me.

you are right. I was a bit surprised by it. I looked at the 2013 Camry filter, did not have this much as from the Mazda3. The car, for most of its life, was using Pennzoil Platinum until last year when the Ultra Platinum was available at Walmart near me. I have been using the Ultra for 2 OCIs (this time is the 3rd time). I smeared the black stuff on my fingers, they are not gritty, rather soft, maybe they are from the rings. who knows. I will cut open next oil change as well.

2007 Mazda3i, bought new, all services are done by myself, see my post above for oil used. I change oil every 5k miles or 6 months. lots of short trips in last 10 years. current mileage 149,842.
I have a 910S on my Briggs & Stratton mower at the moment. I'll be interested to see how it holds up to an air cooled engine.
This isn’t the first report of PUP cleaning engines, and I see nothing that would stop me from using Motorcraft in your photos. Thanks
OPE is typically pretty easy on filters, assuming the filter is put together right in the first place. Certainly not a given lately.

I have pictures on here of the 910s on mowers. Back then they looked great...
The filter looks good to me. Crud in the pleats, not so much, though. Not a good sign, particularly on a well taken care of engine. Does the ultra Platinum have significantly more cleaning power than the regular Platinum?
The brutal way in which the filter was cut apart, can't really say what is from where.

I don't know what I am going to put on my new ford egoboom with OCI numero uno coming up next month. Was thinking FRAM PH12060 but I have changed my mind. The redesigned engine now takes a metric Motocraft FL-2127. I am almost at 700 miles on factory oil.
Nothing competes with those white FOMOCO, I do not want to massively downgrade; really wish I could buy the factory fitment somewhere. It appears Ford doesn't even use Motorcraft filters at their engine plant(s) given my new car samples over the past couple three decades.

At least in the past they didn't. This was done to help the dealer on a lease return or a warranty "issue". It was an easy way to see if at least one oil change and filter was done. According to the Service Manager, I became friends with, at my Ford Dealer, it was not unusual for lease returns to come back with the factory oil filter still on. Also with "oil related warranty problems" and still having the factory filter on many miles after they should have had the oil and filter changed for the required maintenance.
