After reading about Motorcraft oil filter quality posts and the Fram leaky leaf spring issue recently I wonder if I should run something different. My oci has been every year because the truck only gets driven about 350-500 miles a year using Rotella t4.

Should I switch to a Premium Guard oil filter like the Microgard Select?

I am not aware of a 7.3 filter that does not use rubber to seal the can to the media end cap. Please tell us about one using something else.
Below are all the parts. No ADBV, the bypass is in the oil cooler cap. The rubber was still supple after 28 months.

Is that really an issue? I run Acdelco pf52e filters for a year on two of my other vehicles and have not had an issue.

IMO yeah over time they harden as can be seen in many cut opens on less than a year on this site.. but for $22.. I mean ... that is just ridiculous for them to be using rubber parts. Rubber parts are for jobber filters. Meanwhile a Microgard and several others are giving you silicone adbv and silicone gasket for less than half the price ??

Thanks, For sure that oring is silicone. I cant see the inside seal in that picture. Seems you would see it if it was any color other than black. I will look at one next the time I am at a parts store.

Certainly on most. This thread is about oil filters for the 7.3PSD. I wonder how many participating here have actually used and/or cut apart these specific filters.

I haven't seen any here but on the ford-trucks forum someone did cut a fl1995 and a fl1995a filter to compare. I don't see a ADBV on these either. I also don't know if quality has changed since 2021 when the fl1995a shown was cut open

I used the $10 1995 on my truck without thought for about 20 years since it was so good. When they switched to 1995a the quality dropped. Then the price jumped to $25. The last one I bought had closed louvers so I took it back and opened all if them on Wally's shelf. All were terrible. I switched to the P550371 at that point. Later I found the dbl7405 would fit so I have been using them for the last few changes. Every one has been flawless.

I already bought a Motorcraft filter for my truck about 6 months or so ago before I started doing more research on oil filters. I always thought oem filters were the way to go and they might still be for certain brands I guess.

Should I run the Motorcraft filter or buy one of the filters already mentioned?

Since you already have it, look at the louvers and make sure they are open. If they are then the filter will be fine to use. Just try one of the better options for the next change.

You may want to check into Baldwin B7039 specs if you haven’t already. I must have used the same size filter on my Ford 6.9 a long time ago. I only remember it was a lot of oil.

If the filter has an ADBV then it doesn't need a separate sealing ring between the media cartridge and end cap (like shown in post 23) because the ADBV is the seal.
