No they don't...

what are you running in the 01 Ben?

I gotta change the converter in my 99 monday. I noticed today it's got a bit of shudder.Pretty common in them. It's only got 67k on it.

PP 5W-30, thinking about RL 5W-20 though.

Time for a fluid exchange.

Tranny's been serviced 3 times. Shudder is pretty common on the 4R70W in the trucks. Fluid looks good, changed about 15k ago. I have an open lift monday so i'm going to throw a Hughes towmaster with a 1800 stall in it.

I'm thinking of going redline 5-30 in both of my F150's

What trans fluid are you running?

I'm definitely swapping the truck over to RL, I'm up in the air between 5W-20 and 5W-30 though.

Yep, been there already. Mobil's recommendation, not Ford's. Anyway this is a different engine from the 5.4l 3v in the F150.
You will not find this same engine in any other market having a recommendation for anything other than 5w20 by Ford. You can run 5w30 but it has to go through several small "metered orifices" and a filter on the VCT before getting to the chain. Read the Motorcraft technical manuals and get enlightened.

Ford's recommendation over there for the 5.4 3V is 5W-30/10W-30.

It's the exact same long block, shipped right out of WAP to AU. Australia got the 3V before we did, BTW.

Saying it over and over again doesn't make it true. Here's the truth: you are wrong.

I've been inside of the 3V VCT, 5W-30 will flow through the screen and filter just as well as a 5W-20.

If Ford's engine with VCT runs 15*F cooler than the non-VCT engines (which are spec'd for 5W20), then it's actually pumping 30wt oil.

Motorcraft Mercon V and lubegard additive. When i pull the trans for the converter I'm installing a Trucool V10 cooler, magnafine and Amsoil universal. I also custom tune all Ford Diesel and gassers 95-current, so I'm going to throw a slight trans tune in it firm up the shifts

it's the same 3 Valve BTW. Not all countries have 5-20 yet so they have no choice to spec 5-30

Prove it.

Not the same, different hp/torque. Yes, they had it first.

I agree with you there, you even have yourself convinced of it without proof.

Probably true, did you run any flow test by chance?

Run what you want, but remember these are high flow (30% more)/ high pressure (75 psi@2000) lubrication systems.

Well if I have a problem I can always delete the VCT. problem solved 5-30 continues for me. I personally have NEVER heard this issue due to 5-30 oil

Im convinced the 4.6 20W v 30W debate has no concise, documented answer. It exsists only to torment us. I've researched it to death and I think 5W20 is fine in just about any reasonable conditon you can come up with even takin TX heat into consideration (and granted, TX heat is no joke). But if you want to go to a 30W I think you would be fine too. I may play around with 30W in my 4.6 just for fun this summer myself.

Is any one running the XO-5W20-QFS full synthetic MC? Never really hear much about it. How does it stack up against readily available synthetics? It may be the most obvious answer for extra duty situations, towing, etc.

That's cool, do you use SCT?

I'm still amused with your "timing chain lubrication" remarks.
