Motorcraft 5w20 Any Opinions?

just curious my cousin has a 2001 ford escape v6 with 140,000 miles he asked me what oil and i said 5w20 motorcraft is a good oil with a motorcraft filter he said he bought 6 qts and one was 5w30 i said i dont think that is an issue.. any thoughts on motorcraft? He lives in cold upstate new york..
This engine leaks so i was afraid to tell him to use a Full Synthetic like Quaker State Ultimate Durability

It won't make a difference. You could fill the whole thing with the 5w30 and you wouldn't know the difference. Use it.

i was more interested in what everyone thought of motorcraft oil im not sure its even made by conoco anymore since the price went up not to many people seem to use it.

Going all Motorcraft on Fords is a reasonable option. Believe Conoco is still the Motorcraft vendor.

The oil is now a bit pricey, but its performance is fine.

Its a particularly thin 5W-20 so far as I can tell. So, good for upstate NY. Its not particularly cheap over the counter--you get it done at the Ford Quicklane place, where its kind of on perma-sale.

I had mine tested at 5k and then at 8300 miles when the Oil Life monitor went off, nearly a year. Its posted here somewhere.

The upshot was: Viscosity was well within spec. Plenty of TBN left. Merely, my short commute had gradually allowed the TAN to creep up (You need heat for the additives to do their job) and it needed to be changed. But had I taken a few more highway trips it would have been fine.

I'm not sure how material the difference is in real life, but it hangs with the best of them. Also, Motorcraft filters are good. Another reason to stop off at the Quicklane place with a discount coupon.

I like the Motorcraft oil. I use it in my girlfriends '10 Fusion with the 2.5 with a Motorcraft filter too. The car is quiet and smooth with it.

Its a quality oil. I think pretty much any auto manufacturer is going to put out some quality oil.

The price went up from the original awesome deal because Walmart bought a boatload of it at a special introductory price when it was first released. Now, they are paying the normal price, in addition to the fact that all motor oil prices went up. I haven't heard anything about CP not making it anymore, but even if they aren't, it's still an excellent oil.

the price is high but he lives a few hours away from my shop if he was close i would use my bulk.
Im glad he asked me this time last time he did his own oil change on his wifes 2011 ford suv he was short a quart and used some of his l;awnmower oil 30W

A few years ago a taxi company compared 5w-20 synthetic blend Motorcraft with Mobil 1 for one year, 4 taxis with each brand for from 74k miles to 123k miles on all vehicles. They tracked oil consumption and did oil analysis. The results for them was no difference between those 2 brands so they switched to Motorcraft. I know this does not represent regular passenger car use and is a bit out of context for this question but it still points to the fact that Motorcraft might be considered a good quality product.

I bought my F-150 with the 4.6 new in December of 2001. I've averaged 5,000 miles a year. The oil has been changed once a year exclusively with Motorcraft 5W-20 oil and the Motorcraft FL820S oil filter. I know this is not definitive but when I looked into the valve cover last year the valve train and head were darn near spotless. My oil always drains a dark amber color. I don't add any oil between OCI's as it uses almost none. I'm increasing my OCI's to 7,500 miles with the same oil/filter combo. The engine will long outlast the body and frame here in salty NJ.
