I have been running 5-30 the last few times, but now that Walmart has the 10-30 for $1, I am considering picking up the bottles and running them for the summer. Is the 10-30 going to be that much worse than paying $1.75 for 5-30 at AZ? It would be for a Regal GS(L67) and probably 4-5K mile OCI

In Texas it would probably make very little difference.

Good point. Can you pull up their website and look at the MSDS's for the two grades. If there is much of a difference in the percentages for each listed CAS number, then maybe one is better. I know (last time I looked) the MSDS's for Valvoline Durablend suggest that the 5w30 and 10w40 have much more Group II/III than either the 10w30 or 15w50. In contrast, the MSDS's for Maxlife showed the same proportions across all grades. However, I would prefer a 10w30 over 5w30, especially in TX.

A 4,000 to 5,000 mile OCI would not "test" most any API certified conventional 10w30 no matter what it was made from.

You think i am worrying about nothing, and should just run the crap out of the 10-30?

Originally, your car used to spec. 10w30 only above 0F; 5w30 below 60F. My 2000 LS does also. (no supercharge).

You will be fine with the 10w30.

These engines are pretty easy on oil, unless you beat the crap out of the car.
