Local Walmart has this on clearance for $2.32 (CI-4, SL) and my mower is due for an oil change. I have only used Rotella SAE 30 in the past (SAE 30 per owners manual) but I cannot find it in qt bottles, only gallon jugs. What is your take on running MC 15w40 in a push lawn mower with 6.75 hp B&S in NC? Typical use is 1 hr once a week.

Thx.

It will be perfectly fine. I ran delo 15w40 in mine before I switched it to amsoil ASE. Your power might drop ever so slightly over a 30 grade. Have fun!

Just put the MC 15w40 in today and when I was priming the oil pump by gently pulling on the pull-start cord, it started up without having to press the fuel primer. Engine ran smooth. Let's see how it runs on its weekly Wednesday cutting.

It will shear down quick to a 30 grade, but it will definitely get you through til after the winter season. HDEO's are good to run every once in a while in a small splash lubricated gasser because they clean the engine really well. It's true that they do offer a bit more parasitic drag and also don't dissipate heat as quickly as a 30 grade synthetic, but it's a 6.5 hp briggs!
