Hey guy’s, Found a quart of advance auto 5w30 conventional oil. Take a look at the date code… 10/27/2014, I would like to know if the oil can still be used?

Many posts on here about this if you search a little.

Most manufacturers that publish something recommend 6 years. I would assume that is given as an extremely conservative estimate. Most here will go longer. Seems to be the add pack may settle out of suspension so shake it up well. I would use them for sure after shaking - 8 years is really pretty minimal.

Having said that, I agree those look opened, so you will need to use your best judgement on that.

Using as a topper seems to be the safest bet.

The oil I'm using is older, bought enough for the life of the vehicle in 2013. I"m about half through my stock

edit: the car got totalled on octobre 1 so will be used in the replacement vehicle. It has a bigger sump and a shorter oil change interval so my stash won't last until the end.

Some people will tell you this:
The dinosaurs have been under the ground for millions of years, your oil is only since 2014, so use it.
(One thing dinosaurs don't contain add packs, boron and the like)

PS: How long was it in the ground for? Couple million years, give or take a few?

Its just some guessing and urban tales. How about following manufacturer recommendations when in doubt
