Motomaster 5w40 JASO MA2 diesel oil for Honda Foreman

Why would you use diesel oil in an ATV when you have plenty of specifically designed motorcycle/ATV oils available all over the internet at the same price or $10-20 over? Any of these are available on eBay and Amazon.

Honda GN4 10W40 SJ
Amsoil 10W40 ATV/UTV
Valvoline 10W40 motorcycle
Valvoline 10W40 ATV
Motul 7100 10W40 motorcycle
Motul ATV/UTV Expert 4T 10W40
Mobil 1 10W40 motorcycle

Not close in Canada, and HDEO JASO MA/2 are well known and recommended for use in ATV wet clutch applications. $50 for 5L versus $90-140 for ATV specific. I can also get 5w which is helpful when ice fishing. I was just wondering if this MM oil was basically T6 and also good for use in my machine.

Not doubting you, but do you know where I can find that info? My dumbass Google searches didn't trunk up any
That might be found here:

https://www.jalos.or.jp/onfile/jaso_e.htm

Also this oil may not have an actual JASO license, only a recommendation, therefore it may not meet every requirement for that license. JASO does not require license holders to be on their list, but there are Motomaster oils on the list, so it may be that this one is not licensed.

Thanks for the link! I've never noticed this oil before, so it may be new, and may be why it's not in the JASO list?

I see T6 has a $15 mail in rebate right now that's valid till Nov, so I may wait and see if it also goes on sale. The MM oil had me curious as a substitute - I do oil changes on four Hondas so in the scheme of ATV oil use, I go through enough each year.

Not close in Canada,

This is not convincing for me.
You have Internet, they are plenty of JASO MA2 motorcycle and ATV oils, but you decided to go with Rotella diesel engine oil. When the manufacturer wrote JASO MA2 in the manual they meant - dedicated motorcycle or ATV oils, not diesel oil covering that spec along with bunch of other specifically diesel specs.

I had a friend that was buying cheap Shell 10W30 diesel oil at Menards in bulks for his Chrysler Caravan van. The oils was not Rotella though, just mineral 10W30. And eventually the van started burning excessive amount of oil. Once I was changing my oil in his garage and spilled it by mistake and he gave me that same oil Shell 10W30 diesel. It was in the middle of the summer and my Civic was sounding horrible. I dumped the oil asap and got the oil that I was using by that time which was specifically for gasoline engines.

My guy, Rotella T6 is a top reco oil for Hondas and has been for like 2 decades or more. A lot of motorcycle owners run it too.

When I said "not close in Canada" I meant not close in price, not geographically, just to clarify.

I think the only knock against rotella is that is could foam or hold more air than a specific motorcycle oil. For an air cooled atv that runs at 3-4k rpm with 4l sump, I don't worry about it all, my 300 Suzuki is 24 years old and spent a fair amount of time plowing a 1/4 mile driveway, dragging logs, or pulling 1000lb trailers of fire wood up hills steep enough to need someone sitting on the front rack, and now has had a teenager thrashing it, and its still running strong.
If I was racing a 250F dirt bike with a 1l sump with it most of its time at 12-13k rpm, then I'd spring for a good motorcycle oil, but for almost anyone not racing a highly tuned motor, I think rotella does the job well enough.

It is dual rated? Unfortunately She’ll doesn’t say that on their site. I posted another thread about it somewhere.

Nope, it's not. It's a pure diesel oil. It's rated ACEA E9 which went obsolete after 2022 and was replaced by ACEA E8 and E11.
Valvoline is here to help this time as a credible source (at the bottom of the page):

Quote:
"E9 engine oils are designed for Euro 4, Euro 5, and Euro 6 emission diesel engines. It is suitable both for engines with and without the diesel particulate filter.

E11 oils replace E9 oils. Those are super-high-performance mid-SAPS diesel oils (SHPD). With the HT/HS lower than 3.5 mPas, they are suitable for diesel engines with diesel particulate filters."

The bolded copy here shows you this popular and cheap diesel oil is inferior to any motorcycle/ATV oil.

I don't see anywhere in the document gasoline to be mentioned. However, I see images of semi, box truck, bus and pick-up truck.

Seems there are so many posts that still say it’s good to go in gas engines.
Hope so!
