Stihl MotoMix should be in the dealers soon. Sometimes premix is the best tool for the job. It's ethanol free, 92 octane, and made with Stihl Ultra oil. If I get a chance to try it I'll give yall a review. Says it's good for up to 2 years in the tank.

I wonder why they'd use a higher octane fuel in a two cycle mix. Generally speaking, the compression in a two cycle engine doesn't require high octane fuel.

Specs on motomix
So is normal gas here allowed to be up to 60% aromatics and olefins? I get 91 octane ethanol free gas for my OPE and toys which seems to work fine. But maybe the Motomix is actually better for your health?

Stihl and Echo require 89 octane min according to both oems.
92 sounds better than 89, and is closer to the other premixes. Part marketing I'm sure.
I just called our tech support for Stihl W/ the whole list of questions regarding Stihl Ultra Oil, and this new Motomix. I will let yall know what I find out when they have answered my questions to the likes of BITOG satisfaction.

Sounds Interesting, I use two strokes and usually end up with too much premixdd gas at the end of the summer. if the price on this is ok, I might spring for it.

Dunno if it made any difference, but I always used 91-92 oct, outta habit I guess, was the thing to do in your outboards back in the old country......(Finland)...

doesn't the octane go down or degrade over time? Maybe they wanted to be sure it was still 89 or higher at the 2 year mark.

That's true. I tell people all the time to start with 93 to keep your fuel within the correct range longer.
As for e10 and octane, 87 is 87, 93 is 93. Ethanol itself has a very high octane number. But when the blend it to make 87 the other parts of the fuel mix would be in the low 80 range. I.E. 105+70/2=87.5. This is the main problem I see with ethanol in a vented fuel system. When 1/2 of the high octane E has evaporated after 5 months your left with a fuel much lower in octane than what you paid for. E85 in the summer months starts out around 105.

Ok. Ultra is made exclusively for Stihl by Castrol in Italy.
According to Stihl there is nothing better period. Again according to Stihl.
The ultra oil is sent to Houston Tx to a co called Johhan L Halterman where the oil is blended with the add pack. Then It is sent to a co. called Omni in Shreveport LA (same place Omin 2stoke oil and fuel are blended) to be blended with the fuel. Omni fuel products are made in a different facility than the stihl, and are a different product. Finally it is then packaged by a co. by the name of Truesouth down the road from Omni in Shreveport.

It seems kind of crazy to ship gas around in jugs, that's how bottled water ends up costing more than gas afterall... Easy and safe disposal of old mix is in your car.
It would be interesting to see a few 500 hour engine tear downs to see if there's any difference between mixing yourself and the motomix. Also maybe the difference in price would buy you a new saw or weed eater?

If a person uses one or two cans of the fuel per year or season, it makes sense.

On the other hand, in my situation, it would be out of the question. I never have "left over" two cycle fuel. I have something two cycle in service all year round.

Interesting that this product that is on the shelves of hardwares, Walmart, etc. is made by a company called Tru South ALSO IN Shreveport, LA......wonder if they are the same company.

Probably are, but keep in mind that Truesouth seems to be the packager/distributor, so we dont know if the mix is Identical, but it would not surprise me if it was.

The fuel used may be the same, idn. The oil, and addpak are most definitely a Shihl proprietary blend.
This concept, like boraticus said, would simply not be economical for someone that uses many gallons of mix in a year. I think in that app. it might be useful in a unit that is only used a few times a year.

Well we have sold 3 cases of the one liter. After weighing all the cots benefits IMO it's just not worth it. Cost is 8.99 plus tax. Yes, it's what I would use if money were no object, but at 36 bucks a gallon that's just crazy.
We can only get e10 here in the Dallas area. The cost of a gallon of 93 top-tier mixed with ultra, and a dash of marine staybil is about 7 bucks.
The only benefit I would chose to take advantage of fuel system storage.

My dealer has it for $7.95 a quart. It's a lot more than even race fuel.
My fuel of choice is Sunoco Standard 110 ($45.00 for 5 Gallons) and add my oil at my ratio.
