Hello all, I did some winter prep on my 2013 F150 STX which included, Mothers clay bar system and two coats of Mothers FX Synwax. I started the process by dousing the paint in a dish soap/water mixture last weekend, I did no scrubbing just left the soapy water mixture on for one week (used generic dish soap). The truck had a previous coat of Mothers Carnauba cleaner wax. Saturday morning it was given a thorough wand washing to finally remove the old wax, and left to air dry. There was a fine white residue in creases so I assumed that was the old wax and the dish soap did it's job.
Having never before used a clay bar system, I followed some instructional videos I found on you tube posted by AutoGeek, and the instructions on the box. The product did what it said it would, and left the surface silky smooth also picking up many fine dark coloured particles that you would never know existed. Also it removed the white wax residue previously noted, and the entire process took about one and a half hours.
Onto the waxing. I chose Mothers FX Synwax because it is apparently a "synthetic polymer" wax. I can only hope this will contribute to longevity. I applied the product by hand using Simonitz brand microfiber towels, dried wiped off and reapplied a second coat. The dried wax wiped off with ease leaving a glass like shine. Also note the wax wipes off plastic trim very easily, leaving only a clear residue that is noticeable on close inspection. Mothers FX Synwax is a good product in my opinion and recommend it.
Overall the entire process of claying and waxing took somewhere around five hours. I highly recommend both the clay bar package and wax. Here is a photo of the aftermath, thanks for reading. Oh and for any who care the truck is a 2013 F150 STX 5.0L, 4X4 with a 3.73 E-Locking diff, she was a factory order and I hope to have some fun this winter with it.
