Mike:

Your school is failing badly. Your brain is far, far from being adequately "washed." You're going to have a really tough time getting along in the new PC real world. . .

jdm:

Good heavens no! Don't wash it!!! Actually, we'd need to bag up some good red clay so that just in case rain washes it off, we can dirty it up real good before touring Berzerkeley...

1987 Dodge Lancer- that was a sweet ride.

LOL

My buddy's a towing operator, and doesn't take any guff from people, stuck in a ditch or otherwise. There's been more than one occasion where he's winched someone out of the ditch and they either then told him they didn't have any money (after being winched out), or had an attitude with him or whatever, and he just let it roll right back in, or in one case, helped it back in, and took off. Once I was with him when it happened, and the county sherriff's deputy told the person stuck that he had better pick another wrecker company and that he was on his own from there on out, then left the scene. The "by the book" way to handle these, if the driver has no money, is to tow the vehicle back to the storage yard and they can pick it up when they get the money. In the meantime, it gets $25/day storage fees tacked to it.
There is no real rule if you have a beligerant (sp?) person that you're winching out. You can charge an "inconvienience fee", but lots of times that only makes matters worse.
Letting it roll back into the ditch is much more entertaining.

Did you ask her, by the way, how she justifies breaking the law (obstructing traffic flow in the left lane) in order to enforce her enviro-agenda? Left lane bandits rarely have a good answer to that question.

And why is it that Germany, which such people would likely believe to be an environmentally conscious country[1], enforces the left-lane passing rule? People DO get out of your way in the left lane here.

[1] I haven't found a vapor-recovery gas pump nozzle here yet.

I have a friend who constantly hangs in the far inside lane. Her logic is that she's usually passing most the other traffic, so why keep moving back and forth.
I've gotten to the point where I almost refuse to ride with her because of this. It's incredibly irritating. Usually if we go somewhere, I'm the one driving. Only once in a blue moon, usually if she's my designated driver, will I overlook such stupidity. If I'm out getting my drink on, I really don't care how bad someone drives as long as they're sober and I get back home in one piece.

I try to be careful and refer to the left lane as the "passing lane" instead of the "fast lane", because that's what it is.

Someone once told me that the passing lane is like an outhouse. You go out there, do your business, and then come back in.

Good analogy

. When I try to use the passing lane, it's frequently occupied by ***holes.

I think the Scion xB took its styling cues from some of the Volvo 7-series station wagons that had been crash tested.

Another thing I noticed around here...The Asian folks very rarely, if ever, drive domestic vehicles. My area of WI has a large Hmong population, and they all drive Hondas or Toyotas.

The Hispanics tend to drive 2WD F-150s slammed to the ground with ridiculously wide low profile tires and tint so black you can hardly see out of it. They also like Crown Victorias, and Explorers modded the same way.

The low class (those on welfare or disability) people on the wrong side of the tracks tend to drive certain characteristic vehicles too. Most common right now are Ford Aerostars. They're almost always packed to the ceiling with junk, and most of them have no exhaust left, and a misfiring engine. Early '90s Caravans are common too, and those typically have one rear window broken and fixed with plexiglass, or tape and plastic. The Dodge Spirit/Plymouth Acclaim are also popular. These almost always are missing all their wheel covers.
Those who have actual jobs and are not living off the state tend to buy the popular "buy here pay here" cars like the Ford Taurus and Chevy Lumina unless they have a tribe of kids, then they drive Ford Winstars. JD Byrider specials that are worth 1/10th what they owe on them.
It's just mystifying that there's such common traits amongst various groups of drivers.

Solstice, or Sun first comes to mind.
Scion Xb.. The new entry car for modders. Low profile tires, and coffee can exhaust. I saw one with a bumper sticker that reads "I think inside the box."
Locally, it's Monte Carlo's or Cutlass's on 22's or 24's, with thumping bass, and "1,2,3,4,5 TV's" all started by Nelly.
Lots of Hummers on huge rims. And pickups.. the "I can park over a Honda S2000 tall" pickups. There is a local man, (politically correct term is vertically challenged) that is just at 4 feet tall, with a lifted Expedition, loud stereo, and Flowmasters. He has an electric step that unfolds from under the truck when the door opens, and a stepstool he uses to reach the filler neck with the pump. License plate reads "SHORTY" Always a crowd pleaser.

No kidding. Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch are east of the 5... Somebody there has a Bentley Continental GT.

Maybe Bentley Continental GT's are trendy. I saw one up by Riverside yesterday.

Actually I do not know what is trendy. I spend 8 hours a day on the road and cannot spot a trend. Scions, Elements, and Priuses (Prii?) were a couple years ago. Minis were, sort of.
