I do think EVH had great talent, but I don't believe he changed the face of music.
The strings are grounded .If there is a bad ground in the house wiring and for some reason you become the ground you will get shocked. One of my sons guitar playing buds came over to jam and his guitar had the worst hum I ever heard in a guitar "Richie Blackmore Strat."so I licked the back of my hand and touched it to the strings the hum dropped.I pulled off the pick guard and I ohmed the wires and found the groung bad .Repaired it did some other wiring things and there was one super happy Strat owner.

My musical influences have changed a lot as I've played, but if I had to choose a single one it would be Jeff Beck. Here's my list of most influential guitarists in rock:

01. Robert Johnson
02. Jimi Hendrix
03. Jimmy Page
04. Jeff Beck
05. Eric Clapton
06. B. B. King
07. Tony Iommi
08. Eddie Van Halen
09. Carlos Santana
10. Joe Satriani

Honorable Mentions:

Keith Richards (wish I could put him in the top 10)
Danny Gatton
Steve Vai
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Chet Atkins
Randy Rhoads
Kirk Hammett
Nancy Wilson (serious!)
Buddy Holly
Alex Lifeson
George Harrison
Doc Watson
Steve Howe
Muddy Waters
Mark Knopfler
John Petrucci

etc., etc., etc., but NO Malmsteen anywhere, hehe.

Sorry for the OT but I'm curious where the strings were grounded? At the bridge?
