More wheel hub assembly woes

I had a front wheel bearing/hub assembly replaced on the GP on Wednesday and am now getting intermittent ABS and traction control warnings. A brief history:
*Right front wheel hub assembly was replaced with a Duralast part and the wheel speed sensor wiring was repaired immediately prior to purchase two months/3,000 miles ago because ABS/TC lights were on fulltime. The hub was replaced first, which didn't fix the problem, necessitating the wire repair (not replaced, just repaired the broken wire). Replacement and repair done at a shop.
*The replacement hub went bad and was replaced by my mechanic on Wednesday with a Timken unit.
*I drove the car without any problems for about 90-100 miles on Wednesday.
*The ABS/TC lights came on yesterday, and they have been coming on intermittently today.

I was planning on taking it back to the mechanic today, but had a few things I needed to take care of first and am hoping to troubleshoot on my own before making the trip. The event that usually triggers the lights and the "Service Traction Control" and "Service ABS" warnings on the info screen is backing out of my slightly inclined driveway, when the front tires are about to hit the pavement. Today I have made two trips to the grocery store and one to the hardware store. The lights and warnings come on when leaving home, but not when leaving the store (it may have come on during one return trip, but I am certain they did not come on two of the other times).

It's too late to take it in today, so is there anything I can do this weekend to rule out any simple fixes I can handle? I was thinking that maybe there is a poor connection at the sensor wire/hub connection or somewhere in the wiring and the jostling around when leaving the driveway breaks contact for an instant. I could disconnect and reconnect the wiring to see if that fixes it. Anything else I should do before taking it in next week?

Anytime I've inspecte the ABS sensor pickups on either of my vehicles, it was covered with fine iron shavings presumably from the brake pads and looked like a porcupine. Maybe yours just needs to be pulled out of the hub and cleaned up. Or maybe it was damaged when one of the faulty hubs was being removed/installed.

Or maybe the tone ring on the drive axle is coming loose. I've seen that on a Ford Escape once and it cause the ABS to malfunction and kick in at the wrong times.

The entire wheel speed sensor assembly (tone ring, pickup, etc.) are integrated in the sealed hub, so they have only been on the car for two days and can't be removed, AFAIK. If that's the issue, the mechanic will have to address it under the part's warranty.

Check for corrosion at the sensor connection on the hub. Make sure the seal is in place.
Its either a wire, connection or the hub itself is defective.
Timkens are usually very good i have never had a bad one right out of the box but it can happen.

One other thought. The wire may have got pinched and damaged during installation.

In addition to all the above suggestions....check your brake fluid level. I don't remember if the GP's have a low brake fluid sensor but I had an Equinox with all the ABS and TCS lights on and it was due to low brake fluid. They system was designed to disable ABS and TCS under low fluid conditions. Had to replace a leaking master cylinder and brake booster which was FULL of brake fluid. Problem solved.

Again - not near my service terminal and cannot remember how the GP is configured off the top of my head...but check it out.

Didn't get the chance to check out the wheel speed sensor connection this weekend, but some experimentation on Friday revealed that the issue is sparked when the wheels are turned far to the left, such as when making a sharp turn while backing out of my driveway or making a U-turn. Making a normal left-hand turn doesn't trigger it. It isn't jostling like I thought might be the case before, as I can drive over speed bumps at 20 mph with no problems. I will try to see if the problem is with the angle of the wheels or putting them under load by just turning the wheel as far as possible to the left while sitting in place.

At this point, I am not thinking it is a connector problem and may be the hub as I can trip the warning lights, shut off the engine, start it right back up, and have no warning lights. I won't have the chance to pull the wheel until next weekend as I will be slammed at work this week, but will check back once I know more.

Finally got around to taking the car into my mechanic and it turns out the repair to the ABS connector wiring (done by another shop with the first hub replacement at the time I first purchased the car) was done poorly and came loose. My shop fixed it up at no charge, even though it wasn't their poor work, because I'm such a good customer (I'd look through my receipts and tally up how much I've spent there over the past two years, but it might make me cry).

They also shaved $40 off the cost of a motor mount replacement they did for me on the Burb yesterday, even though it was a tough job due to a broken exhaust header bolt. The owner said he gave me a break on the price so I could save up to fix the weep from the water pump and a heater core fitting, which they found while doing the motor mount (it never ends with this car!). If I knew they would be removing an exhaust header, I would have had them take off the other one and throw on the Gibson Performance shorty headers that have been sitting in my garage for the past few months...

Just be thankful its not the front motor mount (not the dog bones) on that GP or you would be really crying a river.

I was going to say to check to see if the wiring was rubbing on the drive axle. They're supposed to be clipped to the mounting bracket, but they can still drift over and to the axle and rub. I've seen enough of them like that that from now on during a bearing replacement, I zip tie the wire to the bracket, pulling it back even farther.
