I had a front wheel bearing/hub assembly replaced on the GP on Wednesday and am now getting intermittent ABS and traction control warnings. A brief history:
*Right front wheel hub assembly was replaced with a Duralast part and the wheel speed sensor wiring was repaired immediately prior to purchase two months/3,000 miles ago because ABS/TC lights were on fulltime. The hub was replaced first, which didn't fix the problem, necessitating the wire repair (not replaced, just repaired the broken wire). Replacement and repair done at a shop.
*The replacement hub went bad and was replaced by my mechanic on Wednesday with a Timken unit.
*I drove the car without any problems for about 90-100 miles on Wednesday.
*The ABS/TC lights came on yesterday, and they have been coming on intermittently today.
I was planning on taking it back to the mechanic today, but had a few things I needed to take care of first and am hoping to troubleshoot on my own before making the trip. The event that usually triggers the lights and the "Service Traction Control" and "Service ABS" warnings on the info screen is backing out of my slightly inclined driveway, when the front tires are about to hit the pavement. Today I have made two trips to the grocery store and one to the hardware store. The lights and warnings come on when leaving home, but not when leaving the store (it may have come on during one return trip, but I am certain they did not come on two of the other times).
It's too late to take it in today, so is there anything I can do this weekend to rule out any simple fixes I can handle? I was thinking that maybe there is a poor connection at the sensor wire/hub connection or somewhere in the wiring and the jostling around when leaving the driveway breaks contact for an instant. I could disconnect and reconnect the wiring to see if that fixes it. Anything else I should do before taking it in next week?
