Did he ever answer how many miles on this OCI? I can't believe this thread got so long without ANY reference to the number of miles. 1 year, X miles, OLM @ 53% is all we know. IMO, there's a huge difference between X = 4,000 miles and X = 1,000 miles.

I wish I knew about this web site 7 years ago. When I was in school, I hardly drove 3,000 miles a year. I still changed oil every 6 months because I thought that oil will go bad because of oxidation or something. Granted, the car manual recommended something along the lines of 5,000 miles/6 months. I also used 10W30 in place of 5W30 even when enduring Midwest winters. Gladly, the engine is still going strong with seemingly no oil consumption. About every other component of that car already failed or is failing by now.

With that much mileage, I'd stick with a yearly OCI, regardless of what the OLM indicates.

With that much mileage, I'd stick with a yearly OCI, regardless of what the OLM indicates.
I am not too concerned with the mileage. The GM OLM is set for like 12k to 12.5k max. My wife's BMW has like a 15k OCI. More concerned with the year. Although I would bet a weeks pay that the Mobil 1 that I have in there is still perfectly fine I will change the oil this coming week. I guess a year is long enough

I just reached 3000 miles in 8 months on my Altima 2.5S(NOV 2011). I was having mixed feeling about going one year on this engine. The oil still look OK I guess but, I decided to change it yesterday while I was outside working. As good a time as any to do it I suppose!

I left the oil in my Camaro a little over two years. There was some leaching and the numbers were a tad higher than normal but it was nothing to get in a lather over.

Which Mobil 1 are you using? I know there are those who swear by regular ol' Mobil 1 5w30, but it's not high on my list of quality oils. We have two totally different cars, and while I don't buy into the some what unjust bias against ALL of Mobils products in some parts of the turbo-Subie community, I also don't find anything particular stellar about it, either.
I'm not worried about the mileage, but how the mileage has been accumulated. If your driving consisted of many longer weekend trips and fewer short-distance trips I'd be less concerned. As I mentioned in my previous post, the year+ interval wouldn't bother me one bit if you were only at 1,000 miles. With 5-6k, I'd say it's prudent to change the oil at the one year mark.
Were this my car, however, I'd send out a sample and find out for sure. You may find that the TBN indicates sufficient additive to carry you another 6 months or more, and that the oil properties haven't degraded much, either. If I weren't the type to bother with such things, a year would be my limit with that kind of mileage. It's much easier to remember than a mileage figure and doesn't cost much.

What oil? The oil chosen affects the OCI nearly as much as the type of driving, IMO. Except in the OP's case, time is all but irrelevant to me when it comes to choosing an OCI.

In the case of my '04 Altima, I used my own syn/blend(2qts Quaker State Torque Power/3qts Quaker State Conventional both 5W30) in Nov '11 to July '12. Lot's of short trips w/only some hiwy miles. Often I'll change the oil based on convienence too(between 3k & 5K), not just time/mileage
I would prefer to do 5K mile OCI in about 5-6 months but, I'm finding that I am just treveling less these days.
Yesterday, I also just changed the Oil/Filter on my '80 Firebird FORMULA V8, which was on a diet of MaxLife 5W30, to QS DEFY 5W30. My records showed that the last time I changed the oil/filter(MaxLife/PuroClassic) was SEPT 2010(22 months/600 miles). Almost seemed like a waste but, IDK how many contaminents were in the oil from too many short trips. 2 years is long enough! Even though the oil looked clean and didn't have too strong of a fuel smell, it had to go!

The Caddy drivetrain warranty in 2009 was 5yr /100,000 mi. wasn't it the same for the 2008?
