Also you forget that Chevron oils use ISO-syn group II+ basestocks this was a good value because the price of the oil was often a lot less than other national brands. Then about the time the deposit shield came out Chevron decided to price the oils within the same price range as other brands. But Chevron oils are still good, but I have to go to Autozone or Oreily's to buy it. Single quart prices are 4.49 to 4.99 a quart. 5 quart prices are over $21 a jug. Sales are rare. Compare that to Walmart prices on Pennzoil their mid priced oil. Price is 4.01 a single quart price and 5 quart price is $14.93 a jug here. I will just by other oils for less that protect just as well and more convenient for me to buy.
I just a few months ago bought all the chevron supreme synthetic the local chevron distributer had. It was a bunch of cases but it was $30 per case @ 6 quarts per case. That's $5 per quart for synthetic! The salesman told me the new chevron branded havoline synthetic sells for the same price. Hard to beat these prices for some really good synthetic when looking at current Conventional oil prices!
I would look at a different place to buy oil if you think 5 dollars a quart is a good price. Pennzoil Platinum is 22.XX dollars a quart at Walmart everyday price here. That is less than 5 dollars a quart. I see that some members on here are complaining about 6 dollars a quart price for conventional. Where are you buying oil? Even if I bought GTX which is almost always the most expensive conventional if it is not on sale does not cost 6 dollars a quart even at the auto parts stores around here. It is something like 4.42 a quart at Walmart. It is less when you buy a 5 quart jug. So that gives you an idea why I have almost given up on buying Chevron oils. I like Chevron, but I am not going to pay over $4.49-4.99 a quart for Chevron oil when I can buy other brands for less.
I bought synthetic, not Conventional, and I bought it from a chevron distributer warehouse. A 5 quart jug of havoline synthetic is $20. They didn't have anymore 5 quart jugs of supreme synthetic or I would have bought the 5 quart jugs. No where around my area is PP $22. It's $26.98 at w-m. M1 is $32 per 5 quart jug. Chevron supreme synthetic or havoline synthetic is the cheapest synthetic oil that I prefer. I could use peak synthetic or super tech synthetic but I really don't like these and i dont know why. My dad always used havoline or chevron so I guess that's my loyalty to chevron or havoline.
