It's a Champ PH48, fairly common I think. I have some AC Delco PF48's that are identical as well. Here is the WIX application guide as to what it fits http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/PartApplications.asp?Part=57060
As to why Purolator is outsourcing them instead of making their own, who knows.

Be careful which Purolator. Not all of them are owned by Bosch etc. Clarcor is producing filters in China under the Purolator name. Another company is producing industrial filters under the name, and I think the courier company is still around.

That filter lacks the typical Champ code letters on the base plate. The 3950 that fits my truck always says ''Y''.

It's (L12222) not a current Puro Classic, it's a Premium Plus. Before I'd let someone with an anti Purolator agenda plant the seed of unsubstantiated rumors about it being foreign made, I'd email Purolator first. In the past they have been very responsive to many members' emails.

That said, I've not seen another Purolator filter of that design, the base does look different.

The application shouldn't be any different than a PureONE PL12222. It's strange that Purolator obviously makes the PL12222, but not a Classic L12222 that looks like their typical Classic filter.

Here is a couple pics of a chinese made F1 for a Jeep Patriot. It's actually pretty decent looking and well made. The bypass button moved freely. This was a 6000km run on 5w20 conventional. I don't think I would have any problem using these again.
