Mopar to replace the current v-8 with a inline 6 twin turbo? say it aint so...

My 07 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 now has 220K on it and is very strong and totally stock and has MDS. Has only been to Dodge for the airbag recall since I have owned it. Pulls my 5th wheel and hauls the family with no problems. The one thing I really like about Dodge is they leave a motor alone and don't redesign it all the time. I have had a few with slant 6 and 318 and 360 and never had a bad one.
I miss my Duster with a 318... 4 bar carb

I just cant see many Mopar v-8 fans warming up to a turbo in their Rams etc....info came from thedrive.com
The Cummins diesel has had a turbocharger for how many years now? Seems like plenty of Ram drivers have been accepting of turbochargers. You’re just being hysterical.

The Cummins is a huge engine....Its not a gas 2.7 liter turbo trying to make enough HP to pull a huge truck and trailer...like ford.

The 2.7 Ecoboost is one fine engine. I know you won’t believe this, but most truck buyers just want an engine that will do the job reliably and not break the bank in gas money. Dual exhaust with headers on a V8 only appeals to a small group of people.

The 2.7 has been extremely reliable. The 3.5 had some issues (that were also common on the N/A 3.5) but as far as I know there is no common issues with the 2.7.

Ive been a Mopar fan all my life and im 64.....I read that they want to replace the 5.7 with a new inline 6 turbo that could make around 400 HP
Im not a turbo fan and refuse to buy any car/truck/suv that has one. Of course as my brother pointed out we dont have much longer to live/drive and as little as i do drive my Jeep 3.6 will last till I die ....I hope and same goes for my V-8 Mustang.

My Grandfather had been a Chrysler Fan since the days he rescued Maxwell. He bought his last new car in 1987. He refused to own a FWD and didn't make it until 2005 when Chrysler resumed production of RWD vehicles. I have often been tempted to purchase a White Chrysler 300C in his honor.

The Ford FWD 3.5 had some additional issues as it had the internal gear driven waterpump that could leak into the engine. The RWD Blocks have external.warepumps. What the issue was on the timing chain is hard to say. Some went 300,000+ miles on 8,000 mi OCI with MC Blend and others died in 80,000 mi on 3,000 mi changes of M1. People try to blame it on oil or change interval but I have seen very little correlation.

Chrysler doesn't have any choice in a few years the 5.7 V8 want be able to meet the government emissions regulations .

Or, can you just imagine FIAT 2.4 JTD engines in military vehicles roaming deserts in Iraq etc. or PUCH G with Mercedes 3.0 and 2.2 engines. I bet turbos falling off them at every corner. Or those 1.5 turbos in taxis across Europe.

I'll probably always have an old "dinosaur" Mopar V8 in my driveway. I like their simplicity, they make good power for what they are, and they're also a good platform to build upon if you so choose.
With that said, I like the idea of moving forward with something new. It's time to evolve when it comes to powertrains in their new vehicles.

I don't know if most cars have a gauge to determine how many psi you are running. My Subaru 2.0 turbo does. it uses turbo maybe 15% of the time and that is only a few psi.. One thing is that the unturboed FA20 produced 205 HP. Having the turbo is easier on the engine bc it has a compression ratio of 12.5 in the NA engine and 10.6 on the turbo.

Not that it matters. The FA20 can produce 500+WHP with a stock engine

I had a 1990 BMW 325 4 door inline 6 that was one of the best cars i ever owned .....sold it 155k when trans started to go. I remember driving late one friday night from Tempe to S.D. to a bachlor party on hwy 8 just inside CA I was doing almost 130 where al the sand dunes are passing a CHiP on the side of the road....I thought no party for me im going to jail.....but he never moved....that was luck.....little BMW inline 6 was fast......
Yeah the BMW inline 2.8 was an excellent engine.
